Settled finance, monthly payment taken afterwards

First off, Merry Christmas! Just getting a quick line in here before I go and get very very drunk...

I viewed and agreed to buy a new car on the 10th December, with my old car as part exchange - however there was still finance owing on this with Black Horse - no issues at this point as the finance on my new car is with the same people so dealer obtained settlement figure, deal was done and that was that - I was told I would not have to make another payment on my old car. All good so far.

Fast forward to the 23rd December (Usual date for direct debit) and lo and behold the normal monthly figure has been paid by direct debit - I've got to admit I don't know much about direct debits - would the finance company cancel the direct debit or should I have done it myself? Will I be able to reclaim the money?

I was looking at doing similar but with BMW, theirnsettlement letterbgavena figure for settlement which included the next payment...may be similar

Depends on whether the settlement figure included that month's payment. If it's over then LTSB will "refund" the overpayment within a few days

If you HAVE overpaid you will definitely get it back....

The lesson to be learned here is that, when cancelling any kind of regular payment, you should always cancel the DD yourself, not rely on the person taking it to cease all requests for payment.
