Xmas pressies?

Did anybody get nice photographic gear for Xmas? I'll start:

• NIKON SB-400 Speedlight flash
• IR wireless remote shutter release
• Hotshoe GPS unit for geotagging (not the overpriced NIKON one)
• Copy of Understanding Exposure book

All good kit. Only issue is that the GPS unit was missing the correct cable for my D5100 so need to chase up.seller to get the right one. Can't try it out :-(

Will be treating myself to a Tamron 18-270mm superzoom in the sales. Happy days, roll on 2012 projects now!

Nothing particuarly kit related this year, bought a 70-200 2.8 mk II as an early pressie to myself a while back..

Did get the Wildlife photographer of the year portfolio book though.

That's what Santa brought me! Fab lens

Could do with being a bit faster but it's sharp enough, well built and the stabilisation works well. I've been blasting away with it all day and am well chuffed. Recommended

My wifes brother bought me a very nice photography book called Transient Light, not had a proper read yet but looks good.

Also got a Lee Filters adaptor ring and foundation kit to go on my wide lens, ordered a Hitech 10 stop filter for it.

Bought myself a 580EXII flash - seems to give much better results than the 430EX it replaced.

My brother got the NIKON 55-200 VR today for his D5000. I had a quick play. AF was OK but it seemed to hunt or get lost at the 200mm end. Not sure whether this was down to the lens or body. I'm doing a lot of travel next year so I need a true single lens solution. The huge range is a clincher for me. Need to check prices tomorrow. Thanks for your useful feedback.

Got a canon s95 tho due to the quake the memory card hasn't turned up so am using a 128 meg one lol

Good call Rob. 128Mb will be a bit small (and slow I would guess ...). Still, better than nothing.

Hope all is OK with you and yours. It's about time you all had a decent break (like about 100 years or so) from quakes.

I got a subscription to Professional Photographer magazine from my girlfriend, Joe Cornish's Scotland book from my dad and his DVD from my mum.

One of the coolest things is a keyboard overlay for Photoshop for my Macbook, no need to try and remember all the key commands.

I got a book, a ND36 filter, a blower thingy, and a lens pen My unexpected Christmas bonus however is burning a hole in my pocket and can't decide between a 24-70, 70-300 or a speed light. I don't think there is room for all three

Oh and I forgot, my mum and dad took some of my pictures off facebook and made them into a calender and have made one for all the family, which was nice

Got a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D, very impressive little thing I must say too, some great quality of images from such a small lens. Going to enjoy using this when the monster lens is off.

Need more reach so I'll be ordering a 1.4x extender on Wednesday. I'm trying to think of reasons not to buy a 300mm F2.8 L lens. Struggling so far...

Only 'tog related present was a wired shutter release (mc-dc2 iirc) so I can try my hand at star trails and the like.

Oh and a nice Nat Geo book of photos.
