Merry Christmas everyone,

I am moving back to the UK early next year and I will need a car, I am already pretty excited about beginning my search. I test drove the BMW 120d Coupe the other day and also the Scirocco 140 TDI. I was underwhelmed by the Scirocco to be honest. Then I came to the realisation that I think I am too young to have 'grown up' car like that.

So I started looking at VXR's, V6's, ST's etc... Insurance quotes for these are coming up at about £3000 PA.

I am 20 years old, so insurance does play a bit of a part on the choice of car.

So what I am looking for is something...

Fun
Brisk between about 30-80mph
Diesel or petrol
Turbo or NA
I can leave for 3 weeks on a private drive, but jump in and drive off when I get home (I work offshore, so the car will be static for 3 weeks at a time)
£7000 (Budget has been revised since looking at the BMW and VW)
Insurance less that £3000
Coupe/Hatch/Convertable

I hope that's enough information, here is a list of insurance quotes I have had already, the only thing that is getting me is that a brand new Corsa VXR N edition is 'only' £1000.

So hopefully you guys can come up with some more left field choices.

Thanks for you time, enjoy the rest of you day beer

Look at things like older fast Jags and Mercs or Porsche 911s and Boxters, you may well be very surprised. If you think about it, young lads aren't in the habit of putting 911s on their roofs, whereas hot hatches...

Just got back from work, I'm still racking my brains on what to get.

RX8 is looking quite tempting, despite all the horror stories, I think it would be too much of a gamble to get a good one though.

500 Abarth also look tempting too.

Still if anyone else has any other suggestions that would be appreciated, will keep this thread updated unlike many other what car threads.

Thanks
