I can't help with finding the dog but can say it's very unlikely the dog drowned in the weir. Whenever I've been involved with weir rescues it's the person that has gone in after the dog that needs rescuing and the dog has managed to swim out unscathed.
The currents in a weir affect the small body of a dog less than a person and they tend to instinctively swim directly to land i.e. across the weir which is the right thing to do.

Hi I am the owner of Cannon, he may not have drowned as his body did not go under he floated off down river. I am doing everything possible to find him, please spread the word. He also appears on doglost.co.uk. There is a massive reward for this little guy, so so desperate to get him back.
Hi Betty, I don't know about that particular stretch of water but do know a bit about the mechanics of water in a weir and how animals tend to be affected hence my previous post.
The best place to start to find more about where the water goes on that stretch is your local fire brigade - they should have risk assessed all weirs and as such are likely to know where the flow goes or if not they should know somebody who does.
All the best with your search.

Thanks again it does not matter if you do not live close by spreading the word is a massive help. I am a serving soldier based in Birmingham (hence rescuing cannon from Cannon Hill park) but I am from Durham. When he went into the water I searched for the next five days trying to find him, as I only have a small family at home so it was just me trying to find him, but now more people know I am hoping everyone will keep a look out, I had to return to Birmingham to carry out my military duties, but will be back up home on Monday for a few weeks to start searching for him, so please spread the word that searches are going on next week for him. I also own a little dog called Alan Shearer he welcomed Cannon into the house as did the Cat Bobby Robson it was as if they knew he had been treated so badly and wanted to help him, and it was amazing to say the least even though Cannon had been used as a bait dog he settled in so well with Alan and Bobby. I had two people who came and assessed Cannon and he was passed as a non aggressive dog, unbelievable dog who deserves nothing but the best.

Rach, just a small point, but you are talking at cross purposes here.
You refer to the River 'Weir',(should read as 'Wear'), but the following posts are talking about a wier across a river, where its possible to get trapped in the wash / Turbulence.
That said, I hope you find your little dog. I live very close by, but due to me being away from home, am unable to assist. If I were home, I'd be straight over to go and help.
I'm sure he will have swam across to the bank and made his escape, but may be disorientated due to being washed down the river.
Have you tried the local dog rescue pounds ?? There are a few in the area, and they will keep a lookout for any animals that get handed in. Google for details and contacts.
Edit to add......The River Browney joins into the Wear a bit further downstream. It passes through the countryside and eventually passes through Durham. Its a winding river, and can be fast flowing when in flood. The force of the water could have carried him quite a way, if its been raining and the river is well up. There is plenty of woodland / farms, and University land around the area, so he may be surviving in the local countryside.
Good luck.
