My vehicle history... 6 cars and 4 bikes in 4 years
Discussion
My cars haven't been as expensive or as posh as some of the serious metal that I see on this forum, but i'm sure they keep me just as occupied and just as broke!
My fist car, the trusty Citroen AX. I really do miss this car, if I saw it for sale I would probably buy it.

As it was more likely to be found! Being jump started at some ungodly hour!

I decided it was time to move up the market a bit, at 18 I got this shed. I didn't know much about cars at this age, but I did know it was a black BMW, which I liked. In all fairness I only paid 800 pounds for it, and in a year the only thing that went was a clutch and a radiator, I got 1000 for it as a trade in. It was only a 1.6 but it taught me a bit about RWD handling, I put this one through a hedge somewhere between Brecon and Shrewsbury, and so I was forced to learn a bit of spannering, this car taught me alot about mechanics and rattle canning body panel's!

The BMW felt fast after an AX, but that feeling of speed only stays fresh for so long. I wanted something a bit faster, a bit nicer, and hopefully Japanese. Just before my 19th birthday I got the nicest car I have ever owned.

A few photos from a skylineowners.com meet..

^^A bright orange skyline is always a formidable sight in your mirror.

I kept this car for about 18 months, it was in pristne condition when I got it, as many of you know alot of imports that come over from Japan are in "as new" condition, I admit I modified it a little, new wheels, after market exhaust and air filters, however upon selling I put it back to stock as I thought it was a shame to leave such an original and clean car modified. The Skyline had the least powerful engine of the RB range, but I did love the car. I decided to upgrade... As I got my next car...

I decided as this car was a bit more powerfull and tatty it was a good base to modify off, it was running 364 BHP, and had fairly standard body work, I got a few bits for it.

Test fitting some new kit

Back to this car later.....
In the meantime I needed a car that I could use to get around in a relaible manner, so I picked up this car..

The above shot was taken with a fellow PH'er. Who says BMW's cant hack the snow? Me and a couple of mates made a slalom course in a large car park when the snow hit, it was fun getting near 90 degree slides at only 25-30 mph, some very good memories were had with this car.
Was on 140,000 miles however it drove very well, and was very clean, which is unusual for an E36. It had some tasteful (to me) mods, including ACS wheels, ACS strutbrace, induction kit and coilovers. I think it was one of the better cars I have owned, however I also thought it was a little bit too grown up for me so it made way for this (straight swap)..

I got this mini for a bit of fun and for cheap motoring, the first MOT has cost me over 500 quid and I still haven't finished repairing it yet. The mini was really my introduction to DIY mechanics as the first MOT that I mentioned above gave a list of 3 pages of failures, and a further 2 pages of advisories. I am slowly sorting this car out. I have plans for a 1330 engine, and would like about 100 bhp, as I only want to use it as a run around.
Back to my second skyline.

I started with a few modifications but got a bit carried away.
A'PEXi Induction kit
A'PEXi Turbo Timer
A'PEXi Boost controller
RSP 400 turbo
Tein Coilovers (low and hard)
Sparco Wheels
Momo Steering Wheel
Kakimoto Exhaust
Japspeed Front mount intercooler
Splitfire Coilpacks
Splitfire boost gauge
De-cat
Nismo 400r bumper and skirts
Tommy Kaira Spoiler
GTR grill
Japspeed front and rear (x2)Strut braces
Cobra bucket seats
Nismo Engine Gaskets
Sparco Harnesses
Nismo indicators
Nismo side repeaters
Nismo Gearknob
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump
Stripped Interior
Removed speakers and head unit
Red stuff pads and EBC grooved and drilled disks
However on one dull october morning that all very nearly came to an end

A taxi driver went straight into the back of the car (he still hasn't admitted liability), and it nearly came to being a write off, however I managed to get the car sent to Knight Racer in Milton Keynes, here is some progress...

I know it isn't to everybody's taste, however, I am part of the fast and the furious generation and I like my cars to stand out.
When the car gets back I plan on getting bigger injectors fitted, and then I will go for 400 BHP. And then get saving for an RB30, and then I think 500 BHP is a reasonable target, and then I might be able to call it finished.
I will put some pics of my bikes up in the next post, thanks for reading.

That's a pretty quick progression of car performance.
AX to Skyline in a few years!
Yer, I decided not to hang about, and decided to increase in power gradually so it wasn't a massive jump!AX to Skyline in a few years!

Some nice Skylines there. What exhaust system did you add to the first one? I'm assuming it was GTS, non-turbo auto. Your current one is a beauty, I remember the thread about the taxi hitting it, the stupid
.
I added a Kakimoto GT1 Exhaust, it is honestly the loudest exhaust I have ever hear, but it also sounded nice at the same time, one of the things I miss most about the car
.
It was as you describe it, apart from it being a manual. The new one is coming along now, in a way the accident gave me some motivation to get all the bodywork done sooner rather than later.

RB30's are a waste of money imo best part of £10k for 500hp doesnt seem worthwhile to me , 400hp GTST's are a hoot and have more than enough hp most of the time
I'm still not decided, if I do go over 400 I would like a forged bottom end which would be fairly expensive in its own right, and if I went for a RB30 block I could go for alot of power later on, but as you say it is expensive initially. I would be thinking of doing it myself so that might cut costs considerably. Tbh 400 might be enough, and it might struggle putting that many horses down!Stuuuuu said:
Nice car history!
If you don't mind me asking, who are you insured with on the GTST? -I am of a similar age to you, but I am struggling to get any reasonable quotes on the same vehicle.
Thanks mate, I'm insured with Adrian Flux, and have been since I was 19, they have been very good for me but I hear they are hit and miss for others. There are a few others, I will have to dig around to get their names for you, if you are willing to spend hours on the phone you can normally get reasonable insurance! If you don't mind me asking, who are you insured with on the GTST? -I am of a similar age to you, but I am struggling to get any reasonable quotes on the same vehicle.

You will , I had a 400hp GTST which ran nitrous on top of that , traction was always an issue even with 265 rear tyres liner33 said:

Interesting, was that 265's on standard arches? I might be able to run 275's with my new arches and I plan on getting semi-slicks. It has coilvers as well at the moment. What sort of chassis mods did you have to keep the power down?
liner33 said:
I had to roll the arches but 265 tyres are fine as for chassis mods just tein super streets front/rear strut braces and up rated roll bars , and poly bushed the rear subframe
Plus most important a decent geometry set up
I have Super Streets, and as many strut braces as I can fit on the car!Plus most important a decent geometry set up
I will have to look into roll bars (whiteline I think) and poly bushing, I have just finished bushing the subframe on the mini and I doubt the Skyline will be any less than ten times harder to do!
Cheers
liner33 said:
Whiteline do these donut type things that help lock up the back end , driftworks do similar as the S14 is interchangable , its not a big job you dont need to remove the subframe just do one bolt at a time , well worth doing though
Locking subframe collars? I take it they replace the bushes?melvster said:
Nice stuff there mate, especially the skyline's. Quite fancy an E36 at some point, just to learn rwd.
Now is the time to get one, there are still some good ones left and they don't cost alot now, even for a good one.Think thats what they are called they are fitted in addition to the bushes iirc
