I Have seen a gen 2 Turbo PDK for around £80k with good spec, question is, is an S a better buy, worth the extra, cheapest i have seen are in the late 90,s. Opinions please.

Extra kit on the S made it worthwhile IMHO.

I'd get an S over a standard Turbo personally.

Better spec as standard(centre locks, pccb etc) more desirable, I didn't notice much of a difference when I drove the S, but it is faster. You can't get the standard seat in the S or manual.

I've got an S, but I had the chance to do an interesting comparison last week at the Silverstone experience centre, where we drove Turbo versus Turbo S back to back...

The S is significantly faster, quicker throttle response, and better agility with all the dynamic engine mounts, torque vectoring etc,etc.. I suspect that the extra 50hp is extremely pessimistic, and I suspect they stuffed an extra few to ensure that it stays ahead of the GTR for straight line performance..

The other big difference is with the brakes where the std steels have further pedal travel and more force required to get a similar retardation.. HTHelps.

I covered over 30k in 3 years in 997tt, tip then 20k in Turbo s, both brilliant cars. The S is worth the extra ,

As an every day car, the S in my view has no equal. The steering is a bit vague, but the in gear performance is epic.

I think the Gen 2 Turbos are very good. Aside from the DFi v Metzger debate, they are another step up from the Gen 1 Turbos.

The 'S' inevitably over-shadows the standard Turbo, but that's probably reflected in the price differential. The Gen 2 Turbo makes a lot of sense if you want a 6-spd manual. However, the 'S' has all the toys, which IIRC would have added over £20,000 to the list price, and many of these are worth having and improve the driving, handling and performance.

If you are thinking the Turbo S comes with extras then it would be just the Ceramic brakes and a software upgrade for the extra power so IMO I wouldn't buy it!

But if you are getting alot more options compaired to what you have on you own car then it's down to wether you can justify those extra's!

Personally I would buy an exhaust and a remap which will give you around 600bhp (which is the limit of the clutch pack in the PDK) and put the extra cash in my pocket!

Hi Nick long time, how's the car. There are now a few tuners who have safely got more out of pdk but agree gen 1 far easier to tune.

That's not correct, the extras are all performance related, and work out cheaper than buying a Turbo plus the options separately ..

Hi Osh merry Xmas, car is fine. Who are the tuners? Also i wonder how long the clutch pack in the PDK will last with more power!?

So what are all the extras that are performance related? ( apart from the ceramic discs and the software to give it the extra 30hp)

Maybe the only other extra's could be PTV and centre locks, but I wouldn't call them a gain in power and can still be spec'd on a normal turbo!

Just checked it out. The current Turbo S gets the following additional equipment as standard:

Performance Upgrade (30bhp and 50Nm increase in power and torque)
7-speed PDK gearbox
Paddle Shift Gearchange
Porsche Cermamic Brakes
Porsche Torque Vectoring
Sport Chrono Package
Dynamic Engine Mounts
Lightweight Centre Lock RS Spyder Wheels
Dynamic Cornering Lights
Adaptive Sports Seats with Driver Memory
Turbo S interior and exterior badging
Special interior trim options

There may be other things, but it does make the S an attractive package. I'd rather this than modifying a standard Turbo, which would likely hurt the warranty and re-sale values.
