Checking tyre pressure?

I’ve only done two track days so still a novice. What are the benefits of monitoring / adjusting tyre pressure? Reduce tyre wear?

What do I need?

Gauge?

Or shall I not bother with the compressor?

Get a quality gauge and an ordinary foot pump. The combo will cost less than £50 and you'll be able to do everything you need it to. The benefits of correct pressure include;
Improved/more consistant grip
Control of tyre temperature
More even wear
Reduced wear rate
Equalisation of tyre temp and therefore grip over the car's four tyres
Ability to accurately set pressures for the drive home.

Thanks! Reducing wear rate and even tyre wear would be my top priorities.

Any reason why you would recommend foot pump over electric inflator? It would be more convenient no?

To be honest I didn't look at your compressor link because I thought it'd show me a £100 240v compressor/pressure vessel combo! I have never looked at 12v compressors because my track car has no cigar lighter! I have used them before and they are pretty good actually.
I'm used to my Michelin double barrel foot pump because five pumps conveniently adds up to 1PSI in my tyres...
Longacre gauges highly recommended though, very solid feeling and long lasting bit of kit and mine is accurate after four years regular use.

Footpump saves you faffing around with cables, lighter socket, etc. and will work anywhere! But I'd buy a decent gauge as suggested - a Longacre or similar from Demon Tweaks or similar (that one from Amazon looks dire!).
