Last monday we took our daghter to the Dr because she had a very bad cough and temperature for a few days. Dr says just a normal bug.

On wednesday she is fainting and vomiting Mrs takes her to dr who again says just a normal virus sends us home.

Wednesday night we stay up with her because she is vomiting in sleep

3am Complains of headache and stiff neck is in and out of conciousness. We call ambulance

admitted to observation ward blood taken at 9am drs don't seem concerned at all feels a bit like they feel we are wasting their time. By afternoon she has not vomited since the morning and seems brighter.

They diagnose chest infection and say she can keep down oral antibiotics and say we can take her home.

^^^^^That was last thursday

since thursday she has started to eat and looks brighter but something is not right she just sleeps all the time have to wake her to get her to eat. Was not too concerned myself after she started eating again. after 4 drs now saying just normal seasonal bugs etc etc

Below was boxing day
Mrs took her back to hospital a few hours ago.

She cant walk in a straight line is sluring her speach and has a 'funny' expression on her face.

They are taking her for a CT scan I will join them shortly so may not be able to see any answers to this.

Dose this sound normal to anyone?

I'd be concerned, but she is in the right place, which is where you need to be, hopefully the Drs at the hospital will be able to address all your concerns.

This time two years ago i was taken down with what turned out to be chest infection. I never realised at the time just how intense they can be. Including things like you have said, fainting, vomiting, always sleeping, not eating and lots of nose bleeds.

Took a good 3 weeks to get back to normal. I guess what im trying to say, somthing that sounds fairly common can hit hard somtimes.

But like a few have said, the DR will know what he/she is taking about.

I wonder if her lethargy is mainly down to not getting enough fuel inside her after repeatedly vomiting everything up. Hope she recovers quickly. Not a great Christmas for her! frown

A very worrying time for you & Mrs 'Pesty' - we all just hope it works out for your daughter VERY soon. Sorry but can't offer any advice, etc except you are all in the right place now to get it sorted.

Sorry to hear this, it can be scary when a close family member is like this (as other posters I have seen this with conditions you wouldn't think are tha serious).

She's in the right place. Don't be scared to be pushy and ask what's going on, a second opinion and so on. You have every right to do so and should never feel bad about it.

not wanting to worry you, but my mums a band 6 nurse and shes said the symptoms are similar to meningitis.
shes also asked if shes got a high temperature, as that will indicate an infection.

she says it could also a middle ear infection.

best thing to do is be in hospital, like other have said, shes in the best place there, just keep voicing your concerns!

all the best!

ETA, shes says DONT take no for an answer!

Exactly and well said. I've spent plenty of hours on hospital wards and I soon learned to ask and ask until YOU are happy. In all probability they are happy it's not serious but if you are worried (which you clearly are) ask the nurses how they know it's not "xyz". If you don't feel happy ask at the desk, keep asking if you don't get an answer YOU are 100% happy with.

It'll probably annoy health professionals here but I have experienced brilliant care but also very average care which missed stuff.

thanks for the kind wishes guys.

she no longer has a temperature. she did for nearly a week but paracetamol brought it down.

in the first round of blood tests last thursday she had a high white cell count no results back yet from these today.

confusion continues and unsteady on her feet still, still constantly sleepy. but again when she is awake she seems a bit 'brighter' than earlier. still the pained expression on her face and slurred speach almost like her tongue is swollen.

seems very odd to me never seen anything like this in a young adult with cold/virus/infection.

she has been nibbling on food and drinking flat coke for a couple of days. never been a big eater i would have thouht it was enough to stop any weekness through lack of eating.

she is able to push back against the drs when they test all her muscles and pupils doing what they should to light.

Hope all turns out well soon. Anyone unwell, especially the young & the elderly, at this time of the year is always the most worrying.

paracetemol will bring the temps down, so thats normal

high white blood cell count shows that there is an infection somewhere

has she had a lumbar puncture? where they take fluid from the spine? this will show if theres an infection around the brain ie meningitis.

make sure shes kept topped up with fluids, lots of water.

all from my mothers mouth, not mine!

eta, mums just said, that labrinthitis (speeling) is an infection in the middle ear, and this may be affecting her balance, as its where the fluid in the ears are, and this aids balance

so this may be why shes feeling unsteady on her feet, feeling drunk almost!
