Home cinema from ps3
Discussion
Hi, my girlfriend and I are going to use the spare room as a cinema room. Ideally I'd like to use the blu ray on my ps3 console as I'd like to play that in there too and id prefer to have fewer boxes under the telly!
I'd like 5.1 surround sound but never having had it I'm not really sure how it works. All the speaker systems I can find have either blu ray or DVD and the speakers run from the player it comes with. Are there any which will plug into the tv or ps3?
I'm not too concerned with top quality, I'm just happy to have a room to watch films!
Thanks in advance.

Something like this http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/o... (cheaper and more expensive versions available) takes the signal and amplifies it, you just add your choice of speakers.
http://www.richersounds.com/product/1-box-home-cin... gives you the audio without an additional bluray player to pay for.
I take it this http://www.richersounds.com/product/1-box-home-cin... and 5.1 versions are what you have been looking at before.

It depends on your budget and how much space you can take up with it really.
The top option will give the best connectivity and probably have the most power and options, you just add speakers that fit your budget / style, the middle option is a pre chosen set with no dvd player the bottom one is a 2 way system with sub ( 2.1 )but it sounds like you want 5.1.
The advantage of the first option is it is easier to mix and match with your budget and upgrade later and will probably sound better. Also if something breaks on the allinone systems you may need to pack it all up for a refund, where as you just take the offending bit in if you purchased all the bits separately at the same store and get it dealt with without having to unplug everything.
Remember you may need another hdmi cable as the one you have now will go to the box you buy and you will need another to go to the tvand you may need to buy speaker cable as well, so remember to budget for that as well.

I use an Onkyo 3305 systems with my PS3 and works a treat. It includes AV amp, speakers (including passive sub) and speaker cable. I settled for this as I was looking for a cheap way of getting reasonable sound, not state of the art. Details at http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-f... I have to admit it's rubbish for music though.
Just one HDMI goes from the amp to the TV and everything else is plugged via HDMI into the amp and I use the amp for switching between PS/3, xbox and virgin V+ box. Works fine with 3D too.
