Am at a lose end and just wondered if there is anybody in Essex who offers a home visit to diagnose running problems on a 350i S2.
It has just had a new clutch installed but is not running right at all (it was fine before the new clutch was installed).
It has got me and my mechanic stumped !!!
I presume it is an electrical fault (maybe some wiring has been dislodged when the engine was up on the hoist?).
We have tried most things...leads,plugs,different air flow meter, cleaned injectors, different fuel pressure regulator, checked earths etc. etc.
It is over fuelling and clearly not running on all 8 cylinders.
Am after an expert please who is reasonable on the labour rates.
I look forward to hearing from you
Many Thanks
Regards
Ian

Are you sure the leads are in the correct order?

I normally use Mowatts in Pound Lane Benfleet

Whereabouts are you? I'm in Essex for a few days, have sorted out a few Wedge problems, and I'm free! smile

HI, I am no mechanic but had the strange gremlins the other month. Had started the car to go for a blast, moved it ouside the garage, turned it off to go lock garage, tried to start it again and felt like a bag of spanners. Found out it was only firing on one bank of cylinders. Is yours doing this ? ( simple to check, see if manifold is hot ! ) Checked all wiring etc. Stumped. Then an emergency thread here, Wedgie came back with the suggestion that it might be the ECU, and lo and behold it was , so do try and substitute yours for a known working one. Hope this helps ..........................UG

Same symptoms I had - I wanted to go through all the sensor checks etc but my garage man said ECU.
Off it went for resoldering and came back - job done, no more overfuelling (and the little amount of driving since, I'd say it actually runs better now).

Thank you all for your replies.
Yes I have double checked the leads.
And thank you re: trying a different ECU. As luck would have it I could try the ECU off of my 390 SE assuming it is compatible ?

Ian

It should be able to start on that, but i wouldn't run it on a 390 ecu other than diagnosing it's infact the problem.

One very simple thing to try is to run a single jump lead from the engine block (anything steel) to the negative terminal on the battery and see if it runs better.
