So, has anyone else been struck down with the puking bug?

Morning all.
I am writing to you from the now relatively safe haven of my toilet. I say relatively as it was the scene last night of some of the most cruel, inhuman, unsympathetic acts a body has ever committed against it's owner.
At no more than thirty minute intervals i have had to leave my bed, where i had been hiding from further eruptions like a small child hides from freddie krueger. Each one crushed my resolve a little more than the last until by half eight this morning i looked like the child of noel edmonds and salacious crumb, hanging on to the u bend with my head pressed against the rim, shaking like a s
tting whippet. I'm not entirely sure but i may have prayed for death, though it did not love me enough to come.
I should point out i have not been drinking, nor do i indulge in anything else anymore. I specifically do not eat dozens of raw egg yolks, yet there they were, each time i had finished imitating satans accordion.
I have finally been able to stop vomiting, but the smell from the other end bears no resemblance to anything living or organic. Athough i am pleased my stomach and my colon have tagged, i would like to share one final thought with you. Like redneck wrestling at it's best, they were both in the ring at one point.
I love you all.
Vince.

Unpleasant isn't it. I had it a couple of days before Christmas, a couple of hours of feeling sick, followed by 6 or 7 hours of throwing up & horrendous s
tting (sometimes simultaneously) every 30 mins or so. Left me feeling rough for a good 24 hours after. On the upside, I've actually come out of Christmas a couple of pounds lighter

Sounds like the dreaded Norovirus, make sure you try and keep drinking so you don't dehydrate. I had it a few years ago and made the mistake of working through it by going to work for a few hours in the morning then sleeping the rest of the day, I just wish I'd have taken clean clothes with me one day.

In 2008 I had four separate bouts of double ended explosions, the OH had two and no.1 son had two bouts (2 years old at the time). Not a year we would wish to repeat.
The memory that has stuck with me is the pain of the explosive vomitting, increasing as the contents/lining of stomach and intestinal tract dwindled, and the agony of dry heaving over a rancid, spattered toilet. Nice.
Hope you feel better soon, OP. Don't forget to keep cleaning touched surfaces with anti-bac (door handles, bannisters etc) and to use separate hand-towels to the rest of the family. If its Norovirus, it can easily return to haunt you...

Early night and slept right through, i have no temp or sickness this morning but i feel like ive been in a fight. Ribs, kidneys, spine, neck and head are very sore. On a positive note, i havent got any extra xmas weight to lose anymore.

Yes. AFAIK, there is no way of gaining resistance to this kind of gastro-intestinal bug (medics feel free to chime in). The only way to get rid of it is to purge the system completely, hence the explosive attempts of the body to clear itself out, well after it appears to have successfully done so. Once you are free of it, there is nothing to stop you getting it again.Early night and slept right through, i have no temp or sickness this morning but i feel like ive been in a fight. ive eaten a couple of very simple things today and had the odd cuppa. not feeling sick anymore but my guts feel like there's some sort of dance-off going on inside them already.
I found that when my insides were rumbling away and feeling unbearably hot it was time for explosive action. Good luck.Edited by VinceFox on Wednesday 28th December 19:20

Evil isn't it. The whole family (four of us) went on holiday last year which is a rare occasion in itself. Within 10 minutes of arriving at the hotel in Bath my 4 year old starts vomiting and doesn't stop until about midnight. My Wife on cue then starts puking everywhere until sunrise. Right about after that I start puking until just after lunch. Absolutely incredible, it somehow missed out our 2 year old thank god. We were away for four days two of which we all spent either hugging or sitting on the porcelain bus. Nasty bug this one, only saving grace is how quickly it leaves!
