Time to tidy up my S3

With one eye on selling my S3 (only managed 3 outings this year and I'm getting married next year) it's time to start tidying it up. Overall it's in good condition, but the interior let's it down due to the state of the seats,dash & dials etc. The first easy fix will be replacing the perished rubber gearstick gaiter which let's all sort of dirt and crime in form under the car. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

I believe they were Mk1 Ford Transit, which like Sherpa vans, were once as common as muck, but have now mostly rotted into the ground.

I went for a hunt around a commercial scrap yard, and found one that sort of fitted - I think it was a Renault Trafficmaster van or something like that - the fiot wasn't great though. I did then find a tatty Transit one, that I managed to repair.

I'd also be interested to hear if anybody has found a proper replacvement

I got mine from my local Ford garage.
Luckily the code numbers were still legible and they looked it up ~ 6112048 (it's listed in the alternative parts guide under useful links)

It was from some ancient ford so may be discontinued now.

I'd be interested in knowing if there is a replacement for the V8S one. In response to the OP - renovating the interior can be expensive and you probably won't see a return on your money and effort. Why not just price "as is" and save your self a lot of hassle and expense?

If you cant get a Trannie gaiter from Tim's number, try using a Landrover Discovery gaiter, fitted mine ok and has a reasonable "flange" to secure it with secrews and washers.

rubber gaiters? Don't think so.

And Kevin, I think you're right - I was in my pal's Discovery, and thought the gaiter in that might not be far off...

While back I had a nose around Ebay and took a chance on a rubber gaiter from, i think it was, a Mitsubishi pick up truck. looked promising in the photo and fitted a treat once I'd cut the hard plastic surround off it and made my own from a scrap of alluminium

Think the only thing to be careful of is if its too thick or chunky it will "bunch up" and can make fifth or reverse difficult.

If the top leather or vynal gaiter is reasonable I wouldn't have thought that much crap or muck would get past?

The leather one has had it too but I'm not worried about that as I can get that replaced easily when I get the drivers seat cushion repaired. The overall state of the interior is good just pretty dirty. Carpets are good, it's had a new roof at some point so the only things that let it down are the dash thats pealed away, the dials could do with some aluminium surrounds or a repaint and a good clean of all the vinyl and leather. And maybe getting the dash lighting working properly so you can actually drive in the dark and see what speed your doing!!

Just been looking for something else on my Ebay history and found the gear stick gaiter, not a Mitsibishi was a Subaru Forester 99p + p&p !

Cheers for the info I will look into those gaiters -worth a punt if I can get one for 99p!!. Are the chrome surrounds for the dials still available ? They seem to make a big difference on the cars I have seen them on.
