help!!! where does this go???
Discussion
one end finishes in the multi plug (white side) and the other looks like it should be connected somewhere on fuse/relay box, i've tried to find where it has broken away from but not having much luck!! i don't suppose any 400se owners (or 350i owners if similar) out there could give me any clues please.
the wires on the other end of the multiplug (black end) i think run across to the ignition judging by the colour of the wires but the car does seem to turn over and run ............sort of! but that another problem that needs greater investigation.

Have a look at you first pic, you can see from the bend and length of the brown wire that it probably comes form the big termination of brown wires by your finger ( in the pic)
I could be wrong, and please bear in mind the several stellas and sloe gins consumed up to this point in the day!

have considered that to be its starting point but couldn't find an obvious break so wanted to check! considering its thickness and colour am i right in thinking it should be supplying power to something?
to be honest if i'd taken wider angle photo there would have been at least 5 other places people would have told me to stick it!!!

Having found what I did behind my 350 dash I wouldn't be surprised if it were just a live junction that the insulating tape has fallen off. It may however join to a terminal at back of one of relays, that terminal again just being used as a connecting junction,I do remember somthing similar at back of mine. If this is the case then I'd expect a circuit not to be working as they may be the live feed to it,as they are still in contact with each other there would still be live continuity to other circuits.

Yeah, I had a few soldered wire joints like that with nothing but insulating tape, some of which was hanging off. I only found out when Taz started blwoing fuses for no reason, and discovered the horror show behind the dash...
That bunch of brown wires would be check 1 for me, if not, then what's that blue crimp sleeve (photo 2) which looks like it's been added by someone afterwards going to a brown wire - could the one you're trying to find be the other end of THAT wire/sleeve join ?

Yep, it's clearly a high-current cable so it could be at 12v permanent live, I'd be careful what you allow it to touch as it could get a bit sparky!to be honest if i'd taken wider angle photo there would have been at least 5 other places people would have told me to stick it!!!
