I replaced my original Clarion unit with a newer headunit. Well chuffed with the new player.
It was free fitting so I thought why not.Well first they butchered the chrome bit surround part of the dash (where they'd have the tool to remove the radio). I'd have forgiven them that but the worse bit is that they made tons of scratches on my mint (and I mean mint) leather passenger seat. I guess they put the old unit on the seat (and the old radio has sharp edges) and scratched it.
Not happy basically.
I know it's an old motor, but it's my pride and joy and I take care of it.
Should have done it myself, but I thought for once, why bloody not.

Take it back, having worked at halfords I know that they'll pay up. At the end of the day they should use proper equipment! Don't leave it too long and just kick up a fuss.

Really? Pay up for what though, cannot see them buying me another seat for the sake of a few scratches.

They definitely wont do anything unless you go back and they may well offer you some cash or (more likely) vouchers, just make sure you fit whatever you buy yourself next time!

Oh definitely will complain. Will be interesting to see what potential compensation could be. I just wish I could get my car back to pre incident state though.

They have replied, they'd like:

1. Your proof of purchase for the stereo and fitment
2. Photographs of the alleged damage to your vehicle
3. Two independent quotation, on company headed paper, to show the cost of the repairs to your vehicle.

How do I go about number 3? Would it be a quote from the main dealer for a new seat cover or would they want a leather repair guy's quotation?

I'd say contact upholsterers - a new seat cover from the dealer is probably unreasonable.

I would give them which ever you'd be most happy with. A new seat cover may not colour match as well as you'd expect.

Quite frankly I'd rather they'd have suggested vouchers as compensation. For the few marks on a car that age, it seems to be more trouble than it's worth (time off work etc...). I guess it's just the principle of paying for an expensive item + fitting and them wrecking the few surfaces that had been untouched and unmarked for 8 years!

You said it yourself, E-mail a few Leather repairers local to you get some qoutes and get your car put back to how you are happy with it.

Seems fair enough so far, these things happen and so long as it leaves you in as good a position as before (or better) that seems okay to me.

As you might or might not be able to tell:

the seat damage is hard to pick up- that is why I think (seat-wise) the repair might be going a bit too far. The damage is there, it shouldn't be there but hey what can I do! Main dealer is quoting a touch under £600 for a base seat cover without fitting!!
And the chrome surround is £90 without fitting, crazy!!
You can tell how he butchered the surround though.

The seat is indeed questionable IMO, especially where the damage is. If it was on the bottom part I could understand.

The chrome fascia however, that is awful. I'd be furious if they didn't cough up for that.

I'd be suprised if they agree to the seat. Where the damage has occurred doesn't to be consistent with what they were working on. Doesn't look too bad either TBH.

The chrome fascia however, that is awful. I'd be furious if they didn't agree to rectify that.
