Aye that's what I meant, it is worse on PC and I understand that amp0lified speakers will do that in general but these seem to be particulalry bad. the buzzing/noise is audible at about the 8th of the full vollume travel.had Creative fatal1ty before and they were excellent, albeit uncomfortable on the ears.

I found that whilst using the on board sound card, more so when using the front panel connectors. It's caused, in my case, by interference from internal components and not helped by then having a wire across the case for the front panel.had Creative fatal1ty before and they were excellent, albeit uncomfortable on the ears.
I ended up getting a proper sound card and the noise disappeared.

Thanks I did have my suspicions that this could be the cause, although i seem to have a decent onboard sound card it's still an integrated peripheral...I ended up getting a proper sound card and the noise disappeared.

I don't think I can justify a separate soundcard purchase when it's been at least 15 years for sound to come as standard with a PC
Anybody know how well audio monitor headphones might work in for gaming? I've been thinking about getting some for my guitar setup, and if they double up for gaming, all the better (and will give me another nudge for parting with the cash).
I've been looking at the Beyerdynamic DT770. From what I've read though, most musicians aren't game geeks, and gamers aren't so much into their musicianship (I'm not exactly a pro, just like my nice stuff).

I would recommend getting the Astro MixAmp & then looking for a decent set of headsets like the above has mentioned. Not the cheapest way of doing thing but certainly the best. That way it turns most headsets into DD 7.1 & if paired with a quality headset it can make a real difference. Also that way would make them compatible with the Xbox, PS3 & the PC.

Onboard soundcards are notoriously rubbish and even spending a little on a fairly basic one will be a huge improvement, especially with headphones. I went for an Asus Xonar DS but I'm considering changing it to an Asus Xonar DX (as it has Dolby Headphone support) @ £50.I don't think I can justify a separate soundcard purchase when it's been at least 15 years for sound to come as standard with a PC
You wouldn't have to spend that much, I'm just fussy about sound that's all!
