Caught a drink driver outside my home just now
Discussion
Just getting into bed and I hear the unmistakable crunch of car against car, followed by a car alarm and lots of revs. It's usually pretty quiet here so I peer out of the bedroom window to see a black Accord come down the road, driver not really in control, before he hits a lamp post.
Jeans and jacket on I'm out the door and the chap is attempting to drive away with full revs, but the car is having none of it. I reach the door of the car and an ordinary, respectable chap gets out and I ask the usual 'WTF' 'are you pissed' etc. He's calm and confused, I tell him he's an idiot to drive and what if the cars he's just hit were pedestrians, he was trying to drive again and I just said 'mate, don't kill yourself or others it's not worth it'. He agreed and I walked back to my house to get the mrs to call the police.
At this point he's apologetic and I attempt to move his car from the road, problem is he has no idea how to take the handbrake off, then I ask if it was even his car. It was, he was just to pissed to have a clue. After a failed attempt to move it, I move the steering wheel and it's apparent he's buggered the axles and both front wheels are pointing in different directions!
Cut a long story short, end result is three damaged parked cars, damaged wall and lamp post and a ruined Accord. One chap who was (in the words of the traffic officer) 'well over' and was on his way for a night in the cell. His car is ruined and he was bricking it in case he gets a custodial. Should have thought of that earlier
The excuse? Girl issues. He'd driven only a very short distance from home to check she was OK after she'd walked out.
It's not worth it. One seemingly normal chap will have a big hangover tomorrow.
Oh, and can someone remove the battered 53 plate Accord from near my house? It's lowering the tone of the area......

So let's get this straight....
You were driving next weeks sotw, clipped a curb and broke the steering. You then hit a few of your neighbours cars trying to stop. Obviously this won't be a good career move so you come up with a cunning plan involving some poor drunk bloke walking home from a night out?
Love the bit where you tried to move it so the finger prints are on the wheel for a reason, clever thinking!

see the problem with being pissed is you can't make sensible decisions like, i'm too pissed to drive, because your pissed.
I fear the only way to stop it is these recent adverts I've been hearing in strathclyde.
you get caught over the limit, bye bye car, bye bye job, criminal record, bye bye relationship most likely, bye bye house if you are then unemployed, bye bye ever getting decent insurance prices again.
of course it's only us respectable people it affects, scumbabs just carry on...

Well that does sort of depend.. I remember stepping out of a cab at home after a night out drinking about 8 years ago. As I walked up to my house I saw my car and thought suddenly how much I would like to go for a drive but then immediately thought that it would be a bad idea as I had drunk rather a lot! So I did seem to have some kind of common sense fighting through despite being hammered
