Electrical faults with the wife's C240 of 2000
Discussion
The first problem is with the fuel gauge. If you fill the car up the gauge will stay at zero with the reserve light on. If you drive for say 50 kms and switch the ignition off and back on again, the gauge will now read full. If, however, you drive for say 300 kilometres with the gauge at zero and switch off, when you switch back on the gauge also shows full. You can drive for say another 300 kilometres with the gauge dropping to half full and the car will run out of petrol. We now drive on the trip recorder as we do not trust the fuel gauge at all and fill up every 500 kms.
The second problem is intermittent and that is on switch on in the morning there is a terrible chatter of a relay in the sill on the passenger side. Switching back on and off makes no difference, but the engine starts and the car runs, but I have no idea what relay is chattering in the sill and what it is there for.
We did have a problem with the interior fan not switching off and the top three notches were all the same speed, but this seems to have righted itself.
Not electrical related, but those seats are the most uncomfortable of any car I have owned. I have sat in softer church pews. For long journeys both the wife and I have to sit on thick foam padding to stop the pain in the butt.
