Again! No matter what I say to my wife about potentially overloading the car, car balance and the importance of seeing out of the back window she still insists on taking everything. She refuses to wash any clothes while on holiday (fresh clothes everyday!)

What can I do to reduce the amount of kit without her noticing advice most welcome. I have a 5 series touring by the way.

And hello everyone!

My mates rule; (we have done a lot of driving holidays, particularly skiing) is that everyone has to be able to carry their own luggage, often a distance to from car parks etc.

Works pretty successfully.

let her fill the car to the brim then insist that she reverses the car out of the drive after blanking off the door mirrors

when she cant explain that you need to be abel to see and she needs to ditch some of the stuff

you are not going to get her to reduce the baggage, so just switch this around and see what YOU can get out of the situation.

What's your fav food? Or fav position in the sack? See if you can get some special treatment and then everyone is happy.

We did a trip around the world, and she was told if she can't carry it, she can't take it. I ended up having a slightly heavier bag when we came home, due to shopping in NYC on the last leg.

I think the trick may be to set a precedent. OP, you're screwed.

Good god...Sounds like you'll need some patience here. She does sound a little unreasonable keeping in mind she's packing out a 5 series touring.

Z4's boot for comparison sake for a week long tour of Scotland. Fresh clothes each day, but with the added flexibility that we bought a few more while up there (Including a bloody thick coat)

Maybe you could convince her to leave a few bits out with the promise that you can buy her some while on holiday? :/

Isn't there those air tight bag things? When you fold up your clothes ECT. Then shove the hoover in a hole to suck up all the excess air?

Do NOT let her pack the car. Wimmin folk are not able to pack things in an orderly and compact fashion.

Oh, and a picture of her would definitely help us give you better advice. yes

How long are you off away for if she's filling up a 5 series touring?

My girlfriend has two sisters and a brother so has a lifetime of packing light and efficient. She thinks I pack like a woman.

I went travelling for a year by myself in 2005.

I had the following:

2 underpants
2 T-shirts
1 pair of jeans
4 pairs of shorts..

Don't worry you will be fine.

I've worked on the idea that I can either buy stuff when I get out there, or give away or leave stuff there when the holiday is over.

You should be doing about 69 mph before she realises you're gone.

Has no one picked up on the fact the 5 series touring has a seriously large boot?

I see 2 real options.

1) Get something with a fixed boot, like an MX5, then she has no choice but to reduce what she takes
2) VBRJ
