Since retiring my dad ended up getting the stereotypical Nissan Almera 1.5 to reliably get him back and forth. In his defence he is also a biker so has a nice Triumph for fun.

Since getting the Nissan he decided to spruce it up a bit so gave it a bit of a make-over under the bonnet.

Below is how it now looks, isn't it good how a little elbow grease can turn a pitiful little 4 cylinder engine into something that looks a bit more interesting?!

Isn't it nice not to just see a load of black plastic...

As far as I know he did use a some Autoglym products and tidied things up by replacing a lot of the nuts and bolts.

He's always been quite fanatical about his machinery, you should see his Suffolk Punch lawnmower hehe

I just like the fact even the most mundane of stuff can be given a bit of sparkle!

That looks fantastic! Amazing how different it can look.

Does he want to borrow my MX5 for a couple of days? wink

I have actually seen an A Series all tarted up in a Metro of all things!

His friend is an ex Austin Rover mechanic who still has a pristine Metro Antibes (sp?) special edition with the 998cc engine in it. The little Metro is absolutely immaculate, and I have never in my life heard such a sweet running A Series engine. It was ticking over one day as I stood next to it and I didn't even realise it was running!

He also has too much time on his hands hehe

So jealous.

Mine aint bad, just showing it's 41 years of age.

Oil leaks, grime, and lack of use have lead to a grubby bay. Rest of car is pristine.

Debating saving for an engine swap. For a rebuilt unit, and then paint and clean all when empty bay.

Sounds like a good project, wouldn't mind something like that myself if I had more time.

I've always been quite a fan of the A series.

Do you show the little Austin?

Only bought it in June, and the bodywork and interior are what I'd call:

"Mint used" ..... I.e. it's all original panels, and interior. Just had a couple of scuff touch ups.

Wheels need a refurb, engine needs a proper set-up and tune, and bay needs cleaning.

Yeah have done a couple. Also do the odd classic rally.

We do need to see the lawnmower. My uncle would love it; he seems to collect ride-ons!

I'm in Yorkshire just now and he's in Scotland but will see what I can do!

I'll start a new post specifically for the Suffolk Punch when I get the chance hehe

Good job. But needs a splash of colour somewhere. Maybe Red/White Jap theme?

Awesome.

It's sad that modern engine bays have so much plastic, it's really difficult to keep it looking respectable.

Yeah probably would look good with a bit of colour but would probably be too radical for him!

Full on respect to your dad, even polishing the PAS and A/C lines!

I bet though, due to general stereotyping, if I were to post a pic of my mate's Nova Turbo's engine bay, where we've gone to the effort of extending wires to hide sensors and wiring, chromed and polished the rocker cover and plug covers, even polished the inlet and alternator housing, hidden the coil, rerun brake and cooling lines so you can't see them, you'd all still call him/ it a chav mobile!
