Removing Bushes...

Can anyone point me in the right direction of the appropriate tool for removing suspension bushes (front & rear), along with an idiots guide on how to do it.

Jaye, as far as I can remember when I did mine I just drilled out the rubber parts of the bushes until the metal sections fell out.

Not very scientific but it works.

I just used compatible sockets and a large Engineers vice. Came out very easily . Only tried the front though. Andy

Front ones HERE for the rears I needed to borrow a 100 tonne press and it really takes some pressure

My thoughts on the task. Use a press. If you can ask a garage to personally use their press, that is the best and cheapest way of dong the job. It's a PITA, even with the right tools. Other key learning is to wait till the bushes are out to prep and pain the wishbones.

Fronts really easy with a 12mm bolt and nut documented elsewhere.

Rears not too bad if they are knackered and the centre pushes out leaving the outer metal tube only. Two hacksaw cuts most of the way through and then a cold chisel will get that out.

Nearest trailing arm in this pic shows just outer metal of bush remaining.


Most likely the inner tube will be very rusted to the bolt and you will have to saw them to get them out.


This was the state of the bush - it just pushed out with a 3 legged puller.


Here's the outers removed - they are pretty soft metal and don't take much getting out.


Refitting new ones does require a press - I got a caravan dealer down the road to do them for £25.
