Just started the car up after its been sitting for about 2 months.

Instantly noticed something wrong with the throttle pedal in that the first inch or so felt slack.

Further investigation revealed the end of the throttle cable isn't sitting right in the little holder which connects to the linkage iykwim , i think its called a clevis pin?

Its as if the cable is about 10mm too long, which is really odd as it was fine before so i'm not sure how its happened as i havent even touched anything down there or in the engine bay which would affect it.

Any ideas on what to do? its like the little pin which sits in the linkage is too small?

Thanks

Right

I have managed to do a temp fix by moving the throttle linkage brakcet up to the next hole on the throttle pedal.

I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not?

Oh and to top it off when i took the linkage off it snapped frown so ill have to get one of those little popper things a thread screws into now because the one i have has been bodged somewhere down the line and is threaded.

Right pain in the ass frown it was fine too so god knows whats happened.

Ok, some pics

Heres the connection at the pedal box end

Heres the engine bay connection

And heres the bit i snapped (well the thread snapped like butter) .What do i need to order as i'm struggling to find a part. The loose bit on the right is threaded so i cant put or am at least struggling to put a new thread in. I dont actually think i can re tap it as i dont have the tool.

Hi

Can't find a part listed either, which means either a new peddle box (not really an option), a breaker, or get one made locally. If I had a lathe handy I'd make one for you. I coud try to retap it for you, if you want to try PM me, but there may not be enough metal around and couldn't promise anything. A local engineering shop could make it for you no problem.

On the other pictures can't see anything obvious, I wonder if the cable wasn't sat down properly and has now dropped into the right place. You have the new bracket, but it doesn't look like it has been bent down, might just be the angle of the photo. When was the cable last changed?

Which bracket do you mean Neil? The one in the footwell is bent down if thats the one you mean?

Going to nip round my mates stepdads as he has a tap and dye set. Maybe i'll be lucky.

Saying that i was searching through my selection of various bolts last night and found a set of old bonnet release pins, these are the same cup size so if i got a new bit of thread (its a couple of mm bigger) i could make a new linkage out of those.

I think part of the problem may be the pedal cover plate was off so when i pressed the throttle it may have bent or moved something?

Isn't it annoying when your going through fixing things only for new things to break hehe

Yep that was the one I meant, it needs to be bent down slightly so the cable runs in the same arc as the pedal.

There are only 2 places it could pick up slack from, the bracket above or the throttle bracket on the engine.

I have run for ages without the cover on, so you have my head scratching on this one unless it was the linkage after all confused

Right

Its all fixed now (i think). I made a new linkage up in the end as the reason i couldnt get a thread in the one pictured is because you need a bit of studding which is left handed at one end and right handed at the other- or so my mates dad told me?

I was lucky enough to have a couple of the ball clips left over from when i ordered new ones for the front bonnet which never fitted for some reason.

I just got some theaded rod and a couple of bolts, placed the ball clip things on, adjusted to the right length and its all good.

I then fiddled about with that bracket so now its bent down as far as it can be without fouling part of the linkage iykwim.

Tested and it works fine, even without pedal cover. Vhrist knows what happened before. If i pull the pedal back towards the inside of the car there is slack but looking at how the linkage and cable works it looks like thats normal perhaps?

M3. Looking at you 3rd picture it is very similar to a bottle screw I use to tension the rigging on my boat. Try a chandlers to see if they can help or search for rigging screws or bottle screws. There are some on fleabay here.
