Stoopid answer but it is a setting in IE. I had it some time ago and having a tweak fixed it. Buggered if I can remember what it was but fiddling around in the advanced settings seemed to fix it.

.Mark is spot on. It's in Tools > Internet Options. Advanced tab, scroll down to Multimedia and tick 'Play animations in web pages'

Have you installed a firewall recently?

Namely Zone Alarm Pro?

I'm having the same problem, on Opera

I have ZAP too.

I also get lots of images loading, despite using different browsers and proxies

I had this problem with ZA and animated smilies some time ago.

I think I went to the section where www.pistonheads.com was listed in ZA and edited it's options, took off all add-banner, type things and it worked (I think I unchecked every block option). Sorry I can't be more specific with exact things but I have uninstalled ZA now I use a hardware router/firewall.

open up ZApro goto privacy, under adblocking select custom, in the window that opens select adblocking and untick animation in ads to block, this should solve it.
