Hey guys,

I've just bought the above Sony TV that I have hooked up to my Cambridge Audio 640 Azur, PS3 and Virgin box. Only problem is I have no sound from the external speakers - only the TV speakers in AV and PS3.

I've tried all the menus but no joy.

The PS3 is plugged into the HDMI ARC (HDMI 1) and the audio cables are coming out of the right/left audio out ports. I've got the virgin box coming through a scart at the moment as it is not an HD box.
The TV has freeview HD but I've not yet plugged it in.

Can anyone advise? Am I missing something with this digital lark as the cables came straight out my old Sony 32" LCD (circa 2007) where the system worked fine. The only difference from my point of view is the HDMI cable.

Blackhawk down in Blu Ray needs the sub kicking!!

Thanks

I bought the very save TV yesterday from John Lewis. They price matched the Comet offer of £549 with the bonus of a 5yr warranty - Amasing saving considering just before xmas this TV was selling for £750.

Anyway - there aren't any audio out sockets as such - I think maybe you have connected your amp to the component audio IN phono sockets?
I think your only option is to use optical out or the 3.5mm headphone socket.

My only slight complaint is the vertical shadowing effect made by the LED edgelights on this TV - not sure if you've noticed that?

Looks like your amp doesnt support ARC, if so you will need to connect an optical cable best from the devices direct to the amp.

Same here Dr D. The sales suy did a double take at the price when I queried why the 723 (3D) was cheaper than the 523 (2D) and that was his answer too.

I have done exactly what you say I've done in plugging my cables to the IN ports - I saw the L/R marks and assumed it was right. Damn, more money to spend if I now need a receiver too. Will I hear any difference if I connect it through optical into my azur rather than through ARC? I only have a sub and 2 floor standers, not full 7.1.

Thanks guys

ETS: no, not noticed the shadowing - hopefully I won't start looking for it now!

Unless you have audio OCD, HDMI and S/PDIF(optical) will be pretty much identical. You could, as I said, use the headphone socket for your amp, even if it's just short term.

Look out for those vertical shadow lines, especially on darker grey images. I'm wondering if mine is faulty?

Thanks, just plugged in to the 3.5mm jack and am about to play BF3 to see if it sounds ok. I'm now on the lookout for a receiver though.

I had a quick check for the lines this morning but couldn't see anything on SD. I'll report back once I've played BF3 (its on the 46578th update at the moment).
