I should be so lucky........seriously.... Petrol in Diesel
Discussion
OK picture a scene (I can post this now I have clamed down) - out shopping pre-Xmas with the wife and we pull into put some fuel in the ML350. I say to her to just put in £20 as we were in a rush - the fuel light was on with 1/8th of a tank of diesel in there....
She fuels up and we drive off - 2 miles down the M27 car shudders, I look at her and she says "oh f**k" .... i put unleaded in". Car losses power and we pull onto hard shoulder and car dies"
Mercedes roadside assist were fantastic. Picked us up in 45 mins, new car delivered to my house within 2 hrs and the car sitting with Mercedes garage. Phone call on Monday morning......
"You have been very lucky sir - no damage to the car and so just £500 to flush it and refuel it. Oh your tyres need doing at the cost of £1300."
So a very very lucky escape as heard some horrow stories around this with rebuilds costing ~£6k - garage said most they had was £12k rebuild but insurance did pay up on this but not everyone will. I checked my policy I have and they wouldnt pay but am told some would.
Happy Christmas indeed!!!! Happy New Year to everyone and always read the label :-)

She fuels up
There's the problem, right there.Mine rang me the other week to ask if the car took petrol or diesel. We've had the car 10 months and she has no idea, because I suppose I've filled it up every time. I'm glad she checked, although I believe the diesel nozzle wouldn't have fit in. (This may not have stopped her.)

Judging by his spelling and grammar, so does he.
Really? Perfectly readable and no overly long sentences I thought. Was it really worth bringing it up? Save it for some chavvy little scrote using txt tlk and no punctuation, then we can flame him together. What was the £500 charge for? Seems a bit steep.

£500 to flush and refuel! Strewth!
I'd have topped it off to the brim with diesel and driven it. And kept topping it off every 50 miles to dilute it.
Don't ask me how I know this as I haven't done this several times. Oh no. Not me.
A bit difficult when it's broken down on the side of the road but if it were me I'd of done the same if I'd have realised in time. One for Pints in there I'd have topped it off to the brim with diesel and driven it. And kept topping it off every 50 miles to dilute it.

Even when the car had shuddered to a stop like in the OP? I'd have topped it off to the brim with diesel and driven it. And kept topping it off every 50 miles to dilute it.

My dad did this with my old Passat (bloody prat) thankfully he realised after a gallon had gone in, and switched to brimming the tank with diesel. As it was winter, the gallon in the tank probably did more good than harm, and I'm sure that old boat anchor TDI engine actually ran slightly better.
I've told him if he does the same with the PD TDI engine in the current car, he will be shot at dawn...
