Chim central locking
Discussion
Well, I might have another angle on this one for you having spent yesterday fixing the lock on my car. In my case I shorted out the solenoid on the main lock for the drivers side and this resulted in a siezed solenoid . It is possible that you have done the same thing, but to your central locking unit which is located in the same place.
To check this (probably need to do this on both sides), lean seat forwars and lift up carpet flap on side behing seat belt reel. with this flap up (just velcroed in place) you can access the lock and solenoids. the one with 2 wires is for the door lock and the one with 5 wires is for the central locking. The CL one has a piece of wire which gets pulled/pushed when the soenoid is operated. When the solenoid siezes the rubber gator, which covers the ratchet bar that solenoid operates, cannot be moved with the hand. If it is free to mode by hand then it should be fine, other wise its buggered like mine was.
Another possibility is that the power or signal is not getting through to the solenoid(s). you could check this by connecting a small light (I use an old on/off iluminated button from a past car) to a couple of pieces of wire and then connecting the other end to the wires/conectors leading to the solenoid + activate the CL. The light should work if the power/signal is getting though correctly.
Or it might just be a fuse - though I'm not sure my locking system went through a fuse otherwise that would have blown instead of siezing the solenoid !
My new solenoid cost £26 + VAT from TVR and was cheaper than going to FORD (boot release for a fiesta apparently). The solenoid needs a bit of modification before it will work/fit the TVR though. Remove back plate, rewire connectors + remove return spring in my case.
Note that I was told that I was lucky it was the 2 wire solenoid and not the 5 wire one (like yours might be) as that is more complex - presumably just the fact that there are more wires involved.
Take a look when you get a chance and mail me if you need more info.
