Family friendly pub near Virginia Water ?

We are planning on meeting some friends at Virginia Water on new years day and would like to eat locally first so can anyone recommend somewhere nearby that is family friendly ?

I've just had a look at their website and it looks promising, but maybe a bit too much of a 'bar' style for a family lunch. There will be 8 of us with the children ranging from 8 to 14 and we were hoping for somewhere we can eat and 'catch up'.

There's always the Wheatsheaf just by VW itself.

The Rose and Crown at Thorpe Green used to be good. It was a Chef and Brewer back then though, not been since it changed.

That was my local in the 60's and 70's

The Wilson's were the landlords then, they had a nice daughter, I remember her well

The Rose and Olive Branch on the road between Egham and Chobham a very good, proper old school pub... Their pies and wellingtons are superb.

Rose and Crown is great they have a newish chef who is really good-would book though as does get busy.
The Wheatshef is a good pub, Chef and Brewer so there is normally offers on their website.
You also have the Windmill which is in Windlesham/Bagshot along the A30, this is the same pub chain as the Belvedre is Ascot.
There is the Thatched Cottage in Cheapside which is a beautiful country pub not too far fom Virginia Water.
Not soo much a pub but the Piazzeta in Virginia Parade of shops (next to post office) is bloody excellent.
The Fox and Hounds in Englefied Green is run by a chap called Adrian and is very nice but a little of the £ side.
Lastly there is The Bailiwick which used to be Edwinns which is classed as Englefied Green but is just down the road from Virginia Water.

If you need a hand doing a recce of all these pubsfamily-friendly restaurants, then I'll be more than happy to volunteer myself to sample all the beers on offer at each establishment.

We settled on the wheatsheef in the end as it is so convenient for a walk afterwards. Will update this thread on what we thought of the food afterwards.

Well we went today as our friends couldn't make it tomorrow. First impressions were bad as they had no record of me reserving a table. It went downhill from there :-( The service was terrible, we were told that someone would come to the table to take our order, we eventually gave up waiting and ordered at the bar. When the food eventually arrived I wasn't that impressed, the chicken dish I ordered tasted like it had been overcooked in a microwave. I definitely won't be eating there again and won't be recommending it to anyone.

Everytime I've been there you've had to order at the bar and you either get a spoon with a number or you give them a table number.
Was it particularly busy?

I've never had an issue with the food myself

They were very disorganised, I was told at the bar that someone would come and take the order but when I went back to query this the barman checked and found out that no one was covering our 'zone'.
What made it worse was that even though we put in two orders with the same table number, there was a 10 minute gap between the two orders being delivered to the table. They just didn't seem to have a clue about how to look after their customers.
