I have a 1998 chim. Was just having a look inside the boot at the hinges. There are aluminum bars that are screwed to the boot lid, they are 140mm long, 16mm wide and this is the difference, one is 10mm thick and the other is 6mm thick. So which is right or are both wrong?

No idea why, but that got me especially curious.
A 'how well do you know your car' kind of thing I suppose.

1997 Chim, both are 10mm on mine.

It appears that washers could be used to achieve a neat shut line on the boot lid.

Seems you have a 'special' one there smile

Both of mine are the same thickness, but one side is packed out with a 2mm washer, so maybe the differing thicknesses is to allow for factory build discrepencies. Just a thought.

I beleive on the early models (Like mine) the hinge is different, so, perhaps it has an old style one & a new style one?

The bootlid on later facelifted cars had a wider opening boot, so hinges may well be different. Have never actually looked, thoughsmile

I think it came in with the separate rear light units, in about 1998 IIRC.

I'm sure they're the same thickness on my '98 car but maybe they shouldn't be, as mine is one of the many Chims I've seen where the right hand side of the bootlid is sitting noticeably higher than the rear wing.
