Hi all,

Just made the move from my tuscan to a more daily friendly, still rather beastly sl500. I love everything apart from the walnut centre console and door trims. Can this be rectified? Either piano black or silver, the car is silver on silver so I think either of these would work.

Thanks

R230 or R129?

In the former case you can order replacement trim at the dealer or keep an eye on Ebay where it appears quite frequently.

In the latter case, carbon fibre is the only alternative but is fiendishly expensive (as in thousands of pounds per part).

In either case you can have the trims painted. You could even do this yourself, although I wouldn't.

Someone on here re covered their door trim on an r230 with stick on carbon fibre and it looked very good - cant see why the centre trim wouldn't do as well. The thread can't be that far back.

Changing the trim completely is probably out of the question - four figures.

Four figures you say, I think I'm into the walnut quite a bit now!!
I dont think I fancy the wrapping, may look a bit cheap but thats nothing against anyone thats done it, it may look very good, replacing just sounds phenominally overpriced

Thanks

Mine is speckled silver and is OK. Would have loved the Birds Eye Maple as fitted to the SLK32 which is very dark.

It's a wrap or replace and replace would be expensive from a dealer. Here is the post with the wrap, it is near the bottom. PM the OP and see if he followed through with it.

I have the Silver and hate it. Might have a stab at the wrap myself I think ?

When purchasing my SL R230, I did think that it'd be realtively cheap to replace the interior to a polished alumninium finish. How very wrong, it would have cost circa £3000 from MB whereas carbon fibre was about $1500.

Hence warming to the kithcen worktop interior as shown below.
