Well I am flying to Norway in March with KLM on a fishing trip (from newcastle via amsterdam). This will mean transporting fishing rods of course.

On checking the baggage allownace for KLM flights paying for an extra standard item of baggage includes sports equipment up to 23kg (not an issue as will be less thaN 7-8KG) and up to 200cm long.

Thing is my rod holdall is 207 cm long. Being a bit of a tight arse am i likely to get away with this extra 7cm length without incurring extra charges or shall i pay for the more expensive baggage option?

i'd say chance it and pay at the airport if necessary. unless you get some completely pedantic taunt on check-in you'll be fine. of course, you're flying from the uk which makes this possibility somewhat higher.

Flew norweigian last year from gatwick direct however the drive to gatwick takes far longer than the waiting around caused by getting 2 flights. Again manchester is 3hrs drive from me and i can be at Newcastle in 25 mins, I will also avoid parking charges and fuel costs flying from newcastle.

I didnt have the baggage issue last year as rods were provided by our hosts in Norway.

To (mis)quote you on another thread - "you know the rules, pay up, take it like a man"

Put rucksack on floor at end of baggage conveyor
Put suitcase mostly on conveyor, slightly on rucksack

Hey presto; reduction in weight wink
