There is from time to time.

Simple answer I imagine is there are more people driving the later derivatives thus are more people to chat about them online.

Try the DDK forums for early stuff.

Because the 996 and 997s go wrong so often that people need to discuss them more ... simples hehe

Seriously though, there are quite few discussions about 993s but little about 3.2s and SCs that for sure. You rarely see 944/968 stuff.

Considering how rare the 968 is, its pretty amazing actually just how much it does get discussed on this forum.

Because they are so damm expensive now, very few can realisticly pay that much for a car that gets used 20 weekends a year ( if that )

There are other forums where the classic/retro stuff gets less lost due to the seperate forums.

Would be good to have a general, air cooled and water cooled section in here.

Come on PH, you know you want to. We're not talking a sub section for every single 911 derivative biggrin

What do you want to discuss about them? smile

OK, I'll start....964s are better than those bloated, over priced 993s. tongue out

What's wrong with 911uk.com ? Plenty of 993 discussion on there.

The older models, 964, 3.2 etc tend to be owned by those with even longer beards, who generally tend not to be so internet savvy.

Here you go:
"i went out in the 993 again today. I noticed as i locked the garage there was no oil under it, it sounded peachy for the whole trip no knocking or anything. I got home after having a load of fun and noticed it hadn't blown op or depreciated and nobody thought i was driving a boxster at ant point"

Now how dull is that?

Quite

My 3.2 hibernates through winter

In the meantime I preen my imaginary beard whilst reading about Boxster/996/997 residuals and engine problems on PH

Mike out of intrest your profile shows 91000 miles & 2000 in last year @ jan 2009. what is the mileage now?

I am just wondering what the avredge use is of these classic porsche, I think they look great but for me as said they are a big expense. for little use. 996/997 can give you fun while also doing the daily job as well.

I only managed about 8000 miles in my 1968 911, 4000 in my 914 and maybe 3000 in my SC last year. So my average was 5000. I'd have done more in a Cayenne because you can fit three children in one, but less in a 996/7/986/7 as the odo doesn't click over when on the back of an AA lorry.

993s and 964s? You need tyres with inner tubes to have a real classic 911!
And ear plugs!

My 911 has now covered just 96k , and had 89k on it when i bought 4yrs ago , i agree they are a big expense for little use , but its a proper air cooled classic , would i buy a 996/997 , good question , i really dont know . they are quite common and you see plenty around, but they don't have that wow factor

Lucky? Not really. I have a 60 mile commute and I can't afford to run a modern 911. It's a choice I weigh up every year and I can run 2 classics for roughly the same money as a used diesel Golf and I don't want a used diesel Golf.

Hi, I had a 928 for few years- it never had any problems and one day shortly before Christmas I was driving to my place of employmet (the City) and I lost control on a 1 way street on my common short cut. It slid all the way down without hitting any of the cars parked either side of said road. Lucky, maybe but I loved that car and wish I had never sold it. Drive a Honda S2000 these days, which is pretty quick and does handle better but it does not have the raw grunt of that Porsche.
