As posted in another thread earlier today;
I am working on a new trike at the moment. I have decided to drive the front wheels via a diff so that if a wheel lifts it will spin/slow the trike down allowing the wheel to drop back down. I am going tandem too. I like the possiblitites of slim style. The power will be upfront to keep the wheel base down so as to allow end to kerb parking. It will tilt into corners to allow increased corner speeds/narrower track. I am aiming for a track width of only 1m. This should allow it to pass between traffic and park end on in a narrow space. There will be drawings in next months CKC mag of the initial suspension design although this will be modified before production. Power will be a 3 phase brusless AC motor with a lithium pack. It is going to be an enclosed ride and I have therefore ruled out noisy bike engines. I drove a Smart once with a Busa engine, my ears hurt!
If my protoype pleases me then you can expect to see it at Stoneleigh.

Most attempts at tilting trikes seem to adopt the MP3 parallelogram front end.
To avoid stability issues I am, (right now infact) designing a system that keeps the C.O.G as low as possible. That will help reduce the required tilt angle in order to balance the forces acting against a trike in a turn.
Take a tilting train for example, very small tilt angle, I assume C.O.G to be fairly low too, the trikes Italo has kindly linked us to above seem to have a rider above the tilt mechanism and are thus required to tilt heavily in to corners.
One problem to address is how to ensure that the tilt does not become excessive at low speeds. Some have tried steering controlled tilt unsuccesfully, others have complex computer driven hydraulics, and some have electric tilt motors. Others use the riders foot pedals. I would imagine that if the rider lost traction on the rear wheel when tilting at high angles he would have a tough job getting it sorted as he will be on the wrong side!

Just for everyone's interest, tilting trains use their tilt only for passenger comfort, so that passengers, beverages and such like aren't thrown around. The train speeds are nowhere near the limit and the trains could go round the corner without coming off the rails and so don't need the tilt for 'handling'. I've always fancied a tilting car though so I'll follow this with interest.
Clearly I am going to have to limit my input on here as another of my posts has been deleted! Apparently I was advertising when I posted that cars that I designed were being used in a new race series run by ma5daracing Perhaps if there were clear guide lines as to what is considered an advert then I could post accordingly, maybe if prices or spec or sales bull terms were used then that could be construed as an advert. If I were informing like minded people of an event they may be interested in then that seems to me to be a very useful purpose for the forum.
So if I am banned please contact me on the email for a kit manufacturer that make MX5 based EXO kits!

I guess they liked it..

I spoke with a friend who works for a "group" that build battery. They told me that in 2011they fitted battery into a test car that had in wheel electric motors. Sadly they said these were very costly prototypes that were not intended for production.
They hinted the system had the suspension in the wheel as well and an output about 20-30 bhp per wheel. Use on a three wheeler that would give 60-90 bhp. A similar system should be seen later this year or early next on a production car. I wish I could tell you where and how to get these as clearly these would offer for any electric car.
