well after months of changing my mind i am picking up a new spyder tomorrow.started of in the summer considering a cayman r and was quiet keen but in the end could not justify spending £25k plus my car on a new one.currently drive a 2008 model year cayman s gen1 on standard suspension and 18"wheels (the best set up imho) the ride and perfomance is not a million miles away from a cr.i also considered a 7gt3 which i love but the clutch is too heavy for the wife and as i dont track i feel the car is waisted as a weekend fun toy.i have also always liked the 997s gen1/2 which at the moment a pre regd new car can be had for under £65k but after much consideration i thought this also would not make a sunny weekend toy.so i nearly kept my cayman s which is a fantastic allround car and which i always enjoy driving but then this spyder came along yesterday with a good spec:white, black wheels, pse, chrono plus, and short shifter etc.plus its a 2012 model year(c) pre regd, delivery miles.the ony thing it doesnt have which i would have liked is xenons which i have on the cayman but there is always a compromise when chasing a deal and not specifying to order.
i havnt even driven a spyder yet and when they first came out i must say i was not a fan of that roof and felt it let the car down. i had a boxster 986s for 5 years which i loved and over the last few months the spyder seems to have got under my skin.
why the spyder then?well i love the handling of the mid engine platform.the cayman r looks no different to standard cayman s whereas the spyder looks a world apart from the boxster.
so to all those out there who say you only buy a boxster/cayman because you cannot afford a 911 well you are so wrong i could have bought a gt3 but opted for a spyder.
got a 200 mile motorway drive home with it tomorrow so i will let you know how i get on with that roof!but cant wait for the summer when i do most of my miles

Cool, so you got the best of both worlds? Cayman for everyday driver and Spyder for weekends and dry days. Have fun with the drive home, love the feeling during that drive from the garage when you picked up your car for the first time.

Funny enough they had a delivery mileage black one where I got my Cayman S from and it looked lovely, just did not want a soft top. Enjoy smile

Good luck with that - had v unpleasant drive in mine this afternoon, spray beat the roof on the motorway for the first time.
Conditions were quite extreme though!

Ceramics, buckets, sports mode, PSE, No radio, no Aircon,

I did not see yours for sale, must have missed it, looks well speced.

No radio or a/c.

You'll never sell it on...lol.

Well, as it is I had a look around a Peridot CR at an OPC today....I' m very tempted to come out of the Spyder for one.

Christ, in the rain today, the radio was fookin useless.

Aircon was probably the only reason I could see through the windows though...

It was a bit (ok, a lot) rainy down here today but the Spyder coped very well.

A/C was an absolute God-send though.
Every bit of glass and Perspex would have been impossible to see out of without it - and it was probably only the 2nd time I've had the A/C on in 5 months.

weighs to much, I wanted a spyder not a boxster, tee hee

mines a 3rd car and has the lightest options and all the sports options, so will sell easy to people who want a real one ;-p
I guess most people will have these as 2nd cars so why add weight to it, AC always ends up failing or smelling like old socks anyway.

If I were to get an only car would have got the Cayman R and added the AC and radio, but the spyder is for another market imo, A summer MOTORSPORT car and the lightest car Porsche make.
I guess there are two types of buyer for it, but it's not a Boxster in my eyes, those guys are not the buyers.
Spyder is a future classic for sure, and can say I have never seen one on the road.
Might even add a dry cel Battery and a Ti exhaust to take a bit more weight out of it.

how do you like it v your Exige you had ?

will have to have a mini leicester Spyder meet up, seems a few owners are around here.

Tbh, the Spyder and Exige are very different.
But, all said and done, I think I prefer the Exige.

I can't forget though that I only had the Exige for 5 weeks, so never really got the full feel of it.
I may have been hating it by now!

Great spec!

Sounds identical to mine apart from mine has Stereo/Nav (PCM) and bluetooth (never used it though). I've used my car once in heavy rain (got caught out) and found the blower on full (no air con) did a perfectly fine job of keeping the windows visible. I think the gap between top of door glass and brolly-top-roof creates a sufficient supply of fresh air to keep the windows mist/steam free. You air-con boys try it, you'll be surprised, and save fuel too smile

Zyp - you'd be bonkers to swap it for a CR. Re-read the forum and listen to peoples views on the Spyder vs CR. Spyder is more of a special event.

very nice. did you buy it from OPC or privately..

sounds like my car except I have a radio...

I do recommend the LiON battery, it feels more than the 10kg advertised and if you are into light weight, it's not expensive for how much weight it saves..

I have left mine on for 3 weeks without starting the car and it goes right now...

no lightweight aftermarket battery will be able to do that wink

that looks amazing, I am so excited :-)

got an OPC one, but had standard seats swapped out with buckets and had the sport botton retro fitted as I like the 20degree slip angle it gives you
as I could not find one with the spec I wanted so built a 2nd hand one,

Thumbs up to OPC leicester again for making the car for me and fitting the bucket seats.
