Just a quick wee question, my car is currently sorn, its in nrthern ireland just now but I will be taking it back to scotland soon so need to get it taxed and mot'd, how do I stand in getting the mot done here, sending the northern ireland MOT certificate back to scotland and getting my dad to get the tax disc using the N.I MOT certificate and my log book and insurance? Can i use a northern ireland MOT certificate in scotland with my normal documents?

Isn't Northern Ireland still part of the UK?

Hi

Might be a hassle these days if the DVLA databases are as dodgy and unconnected as they seem to be.

However it certainly used to be fine to have a UK MOT certificate for NI, or the other way round. My father used to quite regularly take his car on the ferry from NI over to Scotland to MOT it rather than waiting ages for a test appointment in NI (in NI MOT tests are done by government testing stations rather than garages, and the waiting list for a test can stretch to months).

All the best

Keith
