Adrian Newey awarded OBE in New Years Honours List according to the BBC. Well done that man, well deserved.

It always surprises me that some people have to devote their entire life to a task before they get an award whilst others seem to only need to have spent six months leading a "yoof group" in a "deprived" area to get a similar award.

Congratulations to Newey. Considering some of the other recipients, it is well deserved.

Interesting to note some opinions from this thread though: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Personally I don't get it. Has Ron got anything?

CBE in 2000.

I think that the OBE is long overdue for Newey though. Many sportsmen/women get honours for being the best in the world at what they do and this is no different to me.

This IMO is better - recognising one of our premier engineers in a field in which the UK leads the world.

No, UK high end engineering is thriving, and will only grow.

He is consistently the best in the world at what he does. Good to see him get the recognition he deserves.

Will he retire now and give the other teams a chance?

The doom-mongering forum is this way > http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a...

I'm not sure about this "Finally getting the recognition he deserves stuff" tbh, it is not like he worked for free.
