Hi All, maybe this will get moved but my wife daughter (23) no pictures and I are going to Las Vegas for 7 days end of Jan. Staying at the Planet Hollywood hotel, doing the usual flight over the canyon and driving to see hoover dam. What other things are recommended for me, petrol head, wife and daughter shopaholics, best shows to see etc.
Any advice welcomed.

It's been a few years since I was in Vegas but besides gambling and booze you've pretty much hit on the big touristy things.
You could check out a show but I'd imagine celine Dione or carrot top aren't really on your "to see" list!
The ladies of the household will not be disappointed with the shopping opportunities, there is a serious mega-mall outside of town, and some of the most expensive places I've seen in my life in town. Im concerned for your credit card

Similar thread on here a few days ago. We went just before Xmas as part of a 3-centre holiday (NYC/New Orleans/LV) and wouldn't go again. This was worth a look though...

7 days is a long time to stay in Vegas, once you've seen all of the casinos there isn't much to do during the day apart from gamble (which may or may not be your thing). 3 days should cover most of it.
I'd recommend taking a few days out to drive to the Grand Canyon (taking in the damn along the way).

The shooting is good fun and dinner at the top of The Stratosphere is a great way to spend an evening.
There's usually a good number of shows available and may not be too bad for availability in late Jan.
You'll spend a couple of days just visiting the different casinos on the strip, they are all worth a wander round even if you don't want to gamble, lots of shops and lots of stuff to see.
Another trip out of the city that would be interesting would be to hire a car and drive out to Death Valley. It's about three hours from Vegas so it would be a full day out but an desert road-trip is a great thing to do and Death Valley amazing, strange place to see, and pretty tolerable for temperatures at this time of year.

Casinos obviously are awesome - all different and takes up a lot of time. We drove through Death Valley enroute to Vegas and it is defo worth a visit - amazing place. There's usually a good number of shows available and may not be too bad for availability in late Jan.

Shows - Cirque has loads on - all pretty good. Just don't go to Kris Angel - Rubbish.
Stratosphere is good for views and rides if this is what u like.
Great place. Enjoy.
I would say 7 days is perfect. There is so much to do in and around Las vegas. Hell of a lot of walking involved!
I would recommend going on a quad biking event. I did it and it was awesome riding over huge sand dunes and off road tracks in the baking Nevada desert. The instructors basically let us loose so it wasn't a crappy little slow go.
Helicopter to grand canyon was also awesome however after hearing that storey of a few weeks ago it makes you think twice!
Lion King at the Mandalay bay is well worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Also the bar at the top of the Mandalay Bay I think has the best view of the Vegas strip. (better than stratosphere because you're closer to it all)
I would say an absolute must also is to hire a car and drive to the marina at Lake Mead. You can hire our speed boats and jet ski's and boot around on the lake (which is more like the sea!). I got jet ski and rode up to the foot of Hoover Dam.
Great place have fun!

Ka at the MGM is really good, cirque meets martial arts!
I thought Ka was awesome! - Amazing technical stage.I'm sure you will be impressed with any of the Cirque Du Soleil shows though.
YOu will be able to spend lots of time seeing the free shows/fountains etc around the hotels on the strip and looking at the impressive hotels.
Try going to the Peppermill on the strip (Circus Circus end) if you want a decent US Diner rather than all the usual stuff in hotels - Good food and service. Massive American portions too.
Wet Republic at the MGM Hotel is an awesome pool to go to during the day, lots of hotties!

Did it a couple of times, once on Harleys once in a mustang convertible. 1st time I was thought it was "tacky" and a bit down market, but 2nd time, I knew what to expect, so took it at face value, and had a hoot !
Would recommend Death Valley ( a day trip), then in the other direction, the hoover dam, and onto the Grand Canyon, for a couple of days on the South Rim.

If you like Cirque du Soleil then Mystere is the best show by far.
You can also go to Las Vegas speedway and drive an indy car, search for mario andretti driving school, I did it and is great fun. You get 5 laps and follow a lead car, the better you stay within the rules the faster he goes, my average was 152mph!! Expensive but great fun.
