I always assumed they offer dreadful valuations for the desperate, but since they're still around, anyone got any real world experiences with them? I'm not selling, just interested really.

You're right. They'll offer you rock bottom then go even lower when they actually see your car in the metal. I would part ex or auction off if a private sale didn't work out. You'll still be quids in over them...

Was offered more than any garages for a straight buy of my van. Sold privately for what they had offered and then a few weeks later they sent me a text with an increased offer by several hundred quid!

All depends what you've got and what they can shift.

They are absolutely NOT interested in anything out of the ordinary though.

They either Retail, or Auction whatever they buy, so expect an appropriate offer...

If you are in need of a desperate sale, where else is there to go? Evilbay? YEUCH!

They're the purchasing side of Carcraft.

I have used them once and there were perfectly reasonable to deal with.

The price they offered me was reasonable considering how much little hassle was involved.

However it would appear if you car inst mainstream they will offer peanuts.

They did knock a silly amount (£200 I believe) off the car for the sake of a stone chip so small I hadn't even noticed it - but you aren't forced to sell to them!

Very much a personal choice whether the lack of hassle is worth the reduced price you will get.

From what I read, the online price they offer is only a starting point for negotiation and once you turn up for your appointment that is when the fun begins (this applied to WBAC and not WWBYC).

A few weeks ago I entered details into both WBAY and WWBYC for a BMW 118D I bought at auction - the hammer price was £6700 with WWBYC offering £5950 and WBAC £6900 (which was GG price).

I don't have an issue with these companies (nobody forces people to use them) but if they are inflating offers to get appointments then using high pressure techniques to lower the price then that is wrong (provided people are honest with their descriptions).

I sold a car last month for £7500 they had offered me £5400, so i would expect once they had seen it that price would have dropped to £5000

they just offered me £2500 less for my R32 than a dealer gave me, and that's ignoring the 2 grand in body tidying it needed which they would have deducted on inspection

Oh good - another 'WBAC' offered me peanuts for my car thread. They will always less than a dealer does in px - the dealer has room to inflate your px price by reducing their margin on the car you are buying + they are trying to sell you a car.

WBAC are buying off you - it is a convenience / easy option to off-load a car. Same as Mazuma mobile or any of those type sites are when it comes to selling used mobiles...

I recently sold them a car as nobody wanted it locally. As others have said the figure they offer is a starting point, and even with the tiniest of imperfections they will take off a huge percentage. It was a mainstream hatch with low mileage and generally pretty tidy, but that did bugger all to help! Can't fault their customer service though, but I guess that's because every is up to their computer.

In hindsight I should have advertised online, and then gone down this route if necessary. Let's not go there though, sore point!

WBAC paid me £1000 more for my car than Skoda main dealer would give to PX. I gave an honest appraisal of my car & WBAC paid exactly what they said. I'd use again, highly recommended. They will offer peanuts for gas guzzlers though...

I have a 120d MSport, good spec, newish car. WBAC valuation is £12700. I hav been consistently offered much less by main dealers as a part ex. The car is in excellent condition and they could not fault it. So they are not rock bottom book every time. I am selling to a dealer who offered me £13000 as a part ex.

I used them to sell an elderly relatives car after they gave up driving. It was a Daeweoo Matiz rolleyes, still under warranty (just) and with low miles, yet I had no luck with eBay/Autotrader/PH.
WBAC offered a fair price (some dealers were selling for only a few £££ more) and as expected knocked it down slightly on viewing for the tinesty scrach you have ever seen, but overall it was a fair price IMO.

I think they provide a service which is convenient, but you have to be realistic - they are always going to offer you less than they believe they can get at auction for your car. From what I could work out they either auction off or sent straight to retail at car supermarkets like car craft, therefore you may get a better deal if your car newish and something they figure they can knock out retail with a finanace package. Old sheds they are going to pay peanuts for because they are taking all the risk for not much potential reward.

Also, I think it is unfair to compare the WBAC offer to a PX offer... a PX offer is an offer based on the overall deal that a dealer is offering - if it pleases you they can offer you more than your car is worth in PX and just not reduce the sticker price on the new car as much as they otherwise might..
