Hey all,

I'm meeting with the painter who I hope is going to be doing the wedge respray soon (his work is excellent) but I am thinking about having it resprayed off the chassis to make sure all is done and eliminate overspray...

Whilst it's off, I'm thinking of doing a minor refurb and have a look at those outriggers...eek! They look good from the bottom side but would love to see what they are like and do a total chassis paint.

How long does this take to do? Has anyone written an article about how to do this?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!! Matt-man

Please take loads of photos and notes on what you did. I am doing this in Feb/March so if you write an idiots guide I might manage to follow it.

Cheers

Hi Matt

Depends how for you want to go I suppose, and how bad you feel the chassis is on your car.
Recently carried out a full respray of my 400se with body repairs into the bargain (usual stress cracks, boot lid didn't fit centrally and rubbed on wing, usual TVR lack of build quality and so on).
If the car is properly prepared and masked, there should be no overspray as mine escaped unscathed (only area was the rear part of the exhaust, which some thinners will sort out).
I was lucky as the previous owner had already dealt with the chassis.
Would suggest trying to get decent inspection of the chassis before you go the whole hog?

Cheers

The main risk I can see is damage to new paintwork whilst refitting to chassis and any flex in body whilst not supported on chassis, think I'd prefer to remove body, fix chassis if needed, refit body then mask and spray.Wooly.

To take the body off and paint it to avoid over-spray is not a good reason IMO unless of course your chassis is need needs of a resto and besides - getting rid of over-spray is dead easy regardless.

Do you guys leave the engine in or out when having a 'full' respray?

What about exhaust manifolds etc?

You can respray with the engine in although you would have to take off the ancillary hoses but this is only necessary if you're going for concourse mode or a complete change of colour otherwise I would leave the engine bay alone...
