The ole petrol in a diesel car stupidness

i would say yes in an older motor, a gallon of petrol to stop the derv waxing used to be common practice.

Don't think it will be a problem just keep on topping it up with diesel every 50 miles or so.

Your risk. It might be ok but if you damage the fuel system the warranty wont cover it. If you do risk it keep topping it up with diesel.

Kin hell, I know it's NYE but a 2011 motor still qualifies as newish no?

It should be ok, it's about 14% petrol, not including what was left in the tank. In really cold climates they dilute upto 10% to prevent the diesel waxing.

I'd suggest topping up after a gallon or so has gone though to reduce the dilution even further.

Interesting, this is in the alps, hasn't been above -5C in the last few days. Car seems to be fine, has done about 50 miles on it, will top up tomorrow.

Ah, that changes everything...

Diesel high pressure pumps and injectors are fuel lubricated, and petrol doesn't have the lubricity required to protect them. Running on petrol damages the pump and injector, how badly damaged depends on when they finally die.

You will certainly not have done enough damage with a ~14% for it to die anytime in the next 6 months.

A mate filled his 407 with petrol and drove until it stopped. He had it drained and refilled with diesel and did another 20k in it before moving it on.
