Does anyone know some really good autbahns in Germany as im despirate to get my 996tt X50 maxed out. I was out there last year but ended up on some really poor roads and could only manage a top speed of 176mph.Thanks

Take it to Bruntingthorpe at the next VMAX. It's less dangerous even though you are unlikely to totally max it out. Daz has had a 191 or so out of his there, IIRC.

My favourite is the A7 between Ulm and Kempton - not much traffic and good conditions. Beware though as it's only two lanes and if you pass other vehicles at high speed you're dependant on them noticing you and your closing speed. Good, safe fun if you take care.

Cant remember its name but the road from stuttgart going south to bodensee has an amazing stretch.Did 180 mph there in a twin turbo 928 koenig.Ran out of courage rather than road.

Would prefer a three lane stretch as last year on a two lane section i had a car pull out from behind a lorry when i was doing around 165mph and my passenger nearly passed out with fear!

It's the A81 - that one gets my vote too, and the A5/A7 between Kassel and Gießen: lots of hills and high speed corners, best enjoyed on a sunday morning though.

If max speed is what your're aftert, it'll be the 20km straight bit of A5 between Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Four lanes in each direction, no speed limit either. Again, best enjoyed on a sunday morning (which I did with a 993 turbo a few years ago )

The A9 between Nurnberg and Ingolstadt has a long straight 3 lane downhill section. Unfortunately it was underwater when I visited last year...

Also recommended for some excellent high speed corners is A93 between Regensburg and the A9 junction.

I saw about 310 near Wittlich just north of the A48. Almost any Autobahn will do for a TT as you reach top speed rather quickly from cruising. The car handles the bumps and slight curves quite well at that speed.

Try to find a stretch without trucks or heavy traffic in the right lane as the closing speeds are rather impressive.

All the way out to cabbageland to see a miserable 176! come on thats only thats a reasonably nippy coming home from work speed in the UK for many 993/996T drivers/owners, I mean its not like you are near flat out or anything, I mean now doing that that would just be silly, no no thats best saved for an early am hoon

You can't own a racehorse & only let it trot 'eh

The 4 lane autobahn between Bonn and Koln is brilliant as it is well lit, has some corners and the surface is smooth as anything. Last time I was there, a little impromptu race between a 996 4S, a Supra and yours trully in the 928 was held, with the 928 coming off the speedo at I guess indicated > 280km/h which ain't half bad for a 20 year old Porker...

have you tried the m6 between lancaster and penrith at 5am on a sunday, apparantly you can get up to some pretty fast speeds on a deserted stretch of motorway, but i wouldnt know!
