Took my 2001 V70 for a clean at one of those places where blokes in an abandoned forecourt wash your car with high power hoses. Car looked nice and clean for Christmas, but about an hour later the ABS light came on. Then the Engine warning light came on. Then the brake failure warning light came on. These came on and off for a couple of days of me going to work with no chance of looking at it. Car still ran, brakes still braked, fluid still at top. I then had to drive to Glasgow from Dunfermline and back in very wet conditions as I was on a promise to take my son for a skiing lesson. After driving through some immense puddles at speed there and back, after a few engine restarts, all the warning lights have gone off and ABS is working correctly.
Could all these lights on have been caused by some dirt, stones or something being blown up into the abs area by the car wash? And the subsequent flooded journeys have cleaned it out again???

More likely the consequences of high pressure water getting into electrical connectors.
The connectors cope fine with normal road spray/puddles etc but not pressure washers at point blank range.
Also a very good way of stripping lacquer/paint in areas with stone chipseek

Some years ago a local police force had issues with repeated failures of motorcycle wheel bearings due to water ingress. Local dealer couldn't figure it out & BMW finally sent a techie to have a look at the Transport Unit. Penny finally dropped when he saw them come in at end of shift & pressure wash the bikes - with the nozzle a few inches from the hubs. Water was forced past the seals. Change in practice & no further trouble.
