My dad taught me how to drive in a Montego Turbo, and an Orion 1600i Ghia

Just like these, except both of his were red

IIRC the orion engine was the same as an XR3I

A brand new, 1989 metallic blue Fiesta XR2, lovely car.
The instructor wasn't best pleased when I kerbed his pepperpot alloys parallel parking.

Before I had a licence:
Mazda 323 (neighbour's car)
Citi Golf (friend's car)
Ford Cortina station wagon (dad's car) auto
VW Jetta (mom's car) auto

When I got my learner's licence:
Honda Ballade (dad's car)
Opel Corsa and Opel Kadett (or it might have been a Monza) (a couple of mandatory lessons with the driving school)
Citi Golf (mom's car), and used this to pass my test.

2003 Ford Focus TDCI for me. Strange thing is it was really easy to stall but when I owned a 2002 1.6 Focus a few years later that was almost impossible to stall.

A wreck of a Rover 100 that had been sat on my auntie's farm for years. I was 14. My uncle got the key and we had a tinker with the car, got it going so I drove it round the field. Good fun.

Instructor's car was a Mini One D and I had a MK4 Golf when I was 17.

Morris Marina coupe - feel the powaaaar (or not). It was not road legal and was for blatting around the fields, did teach me oversteer, understeer and the fact that trees will reshape car wings quite effectively smile

Austin Maxi - winner of the worst gear change in the world.

Ford Fiesta Diesel - no, sorry, can't recall a thing about it

Good times, sense of impending freedom....

I learnt to drive in a Mk1 VW Scirocco Storm and a Mk2 Granada 2.8i Estate

Very different cars to drive but I'd be hard pushed to say which I preferred. The Scirocco was that much lighter and more nimble, but the Granada was RWD and had the V6 Cologne engine cloud9

Internet pics (not the actual cars, but very close):
