I've just bought a new car and the inside of the windscreen has lots of very fine scratches on the inside, i think they have been caused by someone wearing a diamond ring while wiping the screen, anyone know any good products to get them out or is it a new windscreen job?

I had a similar problem, asked my indi if it was possible to polish out, was told that they were too deep and thus polishing would create a mini lens and thus distort vision, one new windscreen later...

Jewellers rouge and mega elbow grease may just do the job.

You could try jewellers rouge, but I fear that ring scratches will be too deep.

Hmm right then, wonder if these would be covered by my windscreen excess.

Probably not, but a broken screen would whistle

I got the screen replaced on the X5 because it was old and getting quite scratched on the outside. It didn't need to be actually broken to be replaced, but the guy on the phone seemed quite confused that I just wanted to be able to see at night.

I had the same thing with my insurer. I was having real trouble with headlight glare from oncoming traffic.

I was covered though, I only paid the excess.

1. Not all scratches can be removed; being on the inside will make things very difficult.

2. A Cerium(IV)Oxide -based product is your best bet if you are to have any chance of polishing it out. Sheet up as if you're painting the inside of the car. A power driven tool is better. Oscillating etc.

3. When you call your insurance company, chances are, your call will be diverted to a 'glassline' which is usually manned and operated by their prevailingpreferred repairer. So if they don't seem too bothered about what's happened to the windscreen and why you want it changed... think about it.

4. Lists are cool

Very unlikely...
...check wording of your policy but it will probably be along the lines of 'broken windscreen'; scratches aren't breaks. However, if the policy does cover scratches then consider...
...you're contemplating having your insurance company to pay for a condition that existed prior to them taking the car on risk???
