My 1959 Hillman Minx

Ive had the car a few months now and put just over a couple of thousand miles on her, so thought i would write up a little thread 
Its a 1959 Minx Series III with a 1500 engine and 4 speed manual column change. I am using her as daily transport at the moment coupled with the MGF (other thread).
Engine bay slighlty tarted up with new heater hoses
Boot emptied and cleaned
Since i have had it i have had to replace a rear wheel cylinder and brake pipe and i have also removed the tow bar. I have some interior tarting left to do with some new carpet bits and trimming so hopefully that will be soon
Not sure what future plans will hold, i was planning on getting rid in spring to get something a bit more practical for every day use (no radio and a top cruising speed of 60mph is a bit tiring) but i don't know whether to hold on and take her to Le Mans this year
I will update with some better photos at another time and keep up to date with other jobs

That would be mental fun!Can anyone explain please, does the column shifter work exactly the same as a normal manual gearbox/stick, can you go from 4th to 2nd ect? Love the colour BTW, has real character. What MPG do you get?

1st = Push lever away and then up
2nd = Keep lever pushed away and all the way down
3rd = Pull lever toward you and up
4th = Keep lever pulled towards you and down
Its just like a normal H shift
And i have been averaging 30mpg on my daily commute but got close to 40mpg on my way to Norfolk last month (all dual carriageway)
What a minter! My dad had one as his first car! lovely stuff! Great working classic
They were infamous for throwing big ends on the motorways when they first opened - the engines and probably more crucially the oil technology of the day simply weren't up to the task of handling being thrashed along on roads with no speed limits

Certainly is, I cannot think of anything cheaper (except a 125cc bike) Beats a 1 litre battered corsa or micra with insurance costing 3 times the worth of the car.I take it its on classic policy? Limited miles?

The illistrations are funny, Any tea/coffee stains on the rear seats? Did any other bits come with it?

I came with two of the brexton car trays and it also has an original Shell Garage service reminder on the drivers side door shut.
On a seperate note when i had to replace the rear wheel cylinder over the christmas break the spares i ordered were genuine NOS and still in their original wax paper
