DIY - fitting 996 GT2 rear brake ducts to 996T

After fitting my GT2 fronts a few weeks ago I fitted the rears yesterday. This is what you get in the kit, the part numbers (L&R) are 996 331 127 90 and 996 331 128 90.



I found that the left one was a bit of a battle to fit where as the right one went on really easily. However for both I found that when your wheels fully hang down the end of the spoiler touches on the cross brace under the car:





So I went about filing a scollop out of both so this didn't happen. On the road it wouldn't be an issue, but when you put your car on a 2 post hosit it would stress the plastic and either crack them or pop them off the brackets





You slip them on the arms from the front and once I got them to fit nicely with the suspension hanging down, you slide the bracket on from the back and insert two expanding nuts from the top through the duct and the bracket, and one from the rear.







And then you are done. Whenever I pull my rotors off I will trim the backing plate to allow more air to go directly on to the back of the disc.

I fitted the same rear ones on my 6.1 gt3 without any issues.. I also have 7 gt3 items on the front.. all seem to working great!

Need to get your drill out and free up those holes on your disc inner faces.........

Have you any ideas of the part numbers for the front upgrade ? I looked into this before on my 996tt and they seemed very expensive. Some were using cup parts and some 997tt units.

i can give you part numbers tomorrow for the 997 gt3 jobs which are fairly cheap, diy fit & and very effective..

997 341 484 92

Not much larger than stock but much more contoured...



Curiously I was charged £7.06+vat for one side and £6.21+vat for the other, albeit 2-3 years ago! I priced up the GT2 fronts and they were ridiculous although slightly larger pieces of plastic.

ETA.....NBTBRV8, how much are the GT2 rears?

not had a 6gt2 on my ramp yet, but if they are the same as on a 6rs, then the 7gt3 items are an improvement.

Sounds like the price I was quoted for the GT2 bits, outrageous for lumps of plastic!

Hmmmm, maybe they can keep them then...I wonder if the 7GT3 fronts will fit on the rear

I've think ive got a pair of those GT2 rears in the workshop if anyone's after a pair. We're on the car for a month if that before being swapped out.
I'll look tomorrow. There should be a pair of whatever the biggest street front ducts are too. Same story.

GT3RS Gen 2 Rears are the way to go... they have redesigned them again and they fit like a glove

Can't remember the 997 rear 'trumpet' duct prices but I think it was around 110 for both sides.

Little tip you may or may not know, use the Design911 fast part finder http://www.design911.co.uk/pages/fastPartFinder.as... to get rough prices of almost all Porsche part numbers, just subtract around 10% to get OPC prices..
