Little video of the Cayman at Oulton Park:

http://youtu.be/fV_ZHB6jRok?hd=1

My first track-day in the Cayman and first time to Oulton Park, so a little apprehensive. It was also damp for most of the day, although this enforced some right foot discipline and learning the lines. The car behaved great, very very predictable as long as I was smooth with the power and steering. Also plenty of fast cars to follow and learn the lines. Not so impressed with the tyres (Michelin Pilot Sports) but I guess expected for the conditions.

The track day was organised by a Evolution (Lancer) forum, some seriously sorted track cars around. Great bunch of folks and happy to chat about their cars when I wondered down the pitlane. Also a few Civic cup race cars which sounded great.

The editing must have taken you almost as long as one of your laps...

Only joking, your car looks nice.

That's not parked, it's the beginning of what skateboarders refer to as a rail slide, I have more pics as the photographer was on the bend when I did it.

I will start a new thread for that later on.

What was it specifically that you didn't like about them?

To be fair, they were just on the legal limit a few mm's left. The track was damp with wet leaves in places, but dried a little after lunch then rained again in the afternoon. Throughout the day the tyres just did not feel like they were planted. Although PSM never really had to do any work. More than a few times I felt I was nearing the limit, especially at the exit of Druids as there is small crest. Maybe I just could not warm the tyres up enough, maybe dropping the pressure a little more might have helped. Either way, the Cayman will telegraph any potential change in grip/loss of traction, so it was never an issue, but it would have been nice to have a bit more confidence in the tyres.

Smooth is a great description for the Cayman. The engine is a little lazy but being mid-engined and nicely balanced it seems very capable on the track. It was running stock suspension and will be swapped to TechArt in the spring once I move house (TechArt kit is too low for current driveway) which will drop CoG by another 10mm.

Does sound like your tyres weren't getting up to temperature. I hope your next track session is on a hot, dry day. driving

Haha! I had about 2hrs of footage and was constantly being lapped by super-rapid Evo monsters. Its amazing what you can edit together ;-)

Nice video maybe a tad long and I think the camera would of been better inside the cabin instead of on the roof. You would of heard your own engine better than those 4 cylinders smile

Heres in a vid from Oulton in a cayman S with the music added by turning the CD on !!!

If this is the disco at Donington guy, he's quick but unnecessarily aggressive. Needs to wind back the ego/testosterone a bit. No need for it at all on a track day.

Not on about the nonchalance, it's his overtaking technique that is overly aggressive for no good reason.

Re: Vid

Wow, he is rapid but as others have mentioned he does tend to be rather aggressive. Fine if your looking to get as many points as possible for say a championship ranking, but a little unnecessary for a track-day.

Re: Mic

Very true, I plan to buy a GoPro HD 2 as it has an external mc socket. My Cayman currently has a Cargraphic exhaust, it sounds great so shame not to record it properly.

Hah, nice find. He almost rear-ended Turbo(?) and then a GT3. I'd be pretty annoyed if he had hit me driving like that. Just watching him at Spa as well (http://youtu.be/2VUzi_3vADY), again super aggressive. This guy obviously has some talent but really needs to get his ARDS get himself into a race series. Although I am not sure how successful he would be, he treats the car pretty hard and is not very smooth. I wonder how many races he would finish.
