I mean c'mon, 8 large for this! If it was a 993 it would be £25k

I love these and in 2012 might not be able to help myself buying one....talk some sense into me.

To be fair, the GTS's have seen a bit of a surge in recent years. Ones that were fetching 8 grand in the past will probably see 15 now, with the best ones anything up to 20-25k

S4's are the most common variant and, despite arguably being the pick of the bunch in terms of build and engineering, are a bit unloved because of the 'last of the line' complex

I think it looks fabulous. Always loved these and I suspect that in current climate demand for them is not high so you may get it for a lot less.

My 928S2 cost me £1500 and went like a missile...

Best value performance I've ever had!

(and sold it a year later for £1750, result...)

It's true, SWMBO is making me choose which car I keep. If I though I could get that kind of money, it would have been up in the classifieds already.

They are fab things, retro at its very best, yet still fairly capable in a modern context.

Sadly, wil always be neglected value wise due to "it's not a 911" syndrome.

It has been my dream car and I love it. It is quiet literally breaking my heart having to think about selling it. It is so much fun to drive, I never got left behind on any of the Scotland PH runs, there is plenty of You Tube footage of it out there on the runs. The 5 ltr V8 sounds amazing. £136 a year to insure, £200 to tax and £50 for an MOT. I haven't found any parts that are not available, so DIY maintenance is easy. The support from the 928 UK site is great. If I do sell it, I will buy another one again one day. It's not 100% that I'll be taking the 911 and that I won't be taking the 928 round Europe this year.

Cheers Angelus. Please don't tell me if you sell it, catch me on a weak day and it would be sitting in my drive

Back to the original question the answer is no, its not a 911 so will never be 'loved' as such. Pains me to say that as a long term owner and lover of front engined Pork.

Yeh, and if it was a Micra it would be £800 and if it was an F40, it might be £200k!

Whats your point?!!

MTR

PS - I like 928's but its not about me, its about the market.

I had an '88 S4 as my daily drive for six years, drove it to Monaco, Holland, Germany and did a few trackdays including the 'Ring. The Old Girl never missed a beat. They need to be used and maintained so not cheap but what is? I used to take mine to Paul Anderson for servicing as he is probably the top 928 man in the country, just a 240 mile round trip but worth the petrol in my mind.

The S4 in the add you posted has a GTS rear PU which may suggest it is a replacement. Seriously, get one bought and as someone has already said the guys on 928.org.uk are your lifline

lovely car, especially the GTS with the wider arches. The auto is nice but I prefer the Benz SL because the roof comes down, the manual is nice but I prefer the 911 when I decide DIY is in order.
