750i, 760Li, A8 W12, S6 V10, CLS 500, Phaeton W12, LS 460?
Discussion
I've just sold my car and am considering any of the above as a potential replacement. I will be doing about 60k miles in it over the next 2 years. The budget is £15k and my man maths tells me that if I can spend less than 7k excluding fuel, road tax and depreciation in total over the next 2 years on the upkeep, they are a viable alternative to a less interesting 730d on a lease deal.
My budget will give me approximately the following:
2007 750i, 40k miles.
2004 760Li 40k miles.
2006 A8 W12 50k miles.
2006 S6 V10 60k miles
2007 CLS 500 5.5 70k miles.
Not sure about the Phaeton figures, but it must be in the ball park.
2006 LS 460 100k miles.
The above values are approximate and the purpose of this thread is to discuss the service and maintenance costs and not the accuracy of the stated values. Assume the car will be looked after by a sensible indie. Any direct experience would be appreciated. Time to throw it open to the PH beards, let the man maths begin!

a brand spanking new 730d isn't a bad place to be for a couple 30k miles per year years imo
£ for £ I would struggle to pass it up to get into anything on your list really.
There are any number of single things that can go wrong with the older barges that simply blow the budget out of the water
On that mileage, the comfort afforded by the end to end warranty and service package tips the scales much more than on lower mileages

I have to say that if the costs are the same, I'd go for the new option too. You don't have to worry about unexpected costs as the warranty will cover any surprises. You just need to account for diesel, tyres and insurance.£ for £ I would struggle to pass it up to get into anything on your list really.
This thread may be of use and specific interest to you, go back over recent weeks - most of your candidates are under perpetual discussion and occasional purchase therein.

The fact that it's a brand new £50k+ car does have a certain appeal, but I do wonder if it would feel like a prison sentence after the novelty wore off, as I do like some oomph. £ for £ I would struggle to pass it up to get into anything on your list really.

I'm disappointed with my CLS (although its a diesel), looks the part but overrated IMO. I'd be looking at the 5GT or 7er lease deals given your circumstances. Failing that my money would go on the 750.
S6 tempting but not for those miles - what's the point?!
I would expect a 388 BHP petrol CLS to drive very differently to the diesel. The deals on the 5GT and the 7 are the ones I am looking at. I'm not sure I understand your question re the S6? Are you saying I wouldn't enjoy it?S6 tempting but not for those miles - what's the point?!

What year and mileage of S8 or S500 would I get for the budget then?
It wasnt intended to be a smart Alec question. Just curious as to why they were off the list. If you've already looked at them and priced them out, that's the answer. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Gary, you know me well enough to know I'm anything but lucky!
