Hi Guys,

Just wondering if there were any old tyre guru's out there?

I've been given an old Avon slick from 1995 and been told it may be ex Mansell. On the side it has the date of use (Sept 95) but little else.

It is rather wide, so suspect it was a tyre used in some open wheeler formula?

Cheers,

C smile

But not slicks & not wide!
Can you give us some more info off of the sidewall as to size, compound etc.

I did the same - just wondering if it is an old F1 tyre really. It must be approx 400mm wide.

Mansell used Goodyears in F1 (for his ill-stared McLaren outings) in 1995. This may possibly be a tyre from one of his one-off BTCC outings, although if memory serves me correctly he only did this in 1993 or '94.

Didn't Avon make the tyres for the Formula Boss series? Could be something like that?

Possibly from F3000 given the size.

Ah yes, when he was too fat to fit in the car.

Mansell and Avons would be ... 1982 Lotus Type 91? But that tyre is too new :|

Or a formula 3, with no connection to Mansell.

Probably off a BOSS series car. AVON tend to supply club racing more than international stuff.

how did you resist the temptation to roll the dog along the kitchen floor?

1998 silverstone.

I was there for the final 2 rounds Mansell was in a Mondeo.
