Hi

Looking to buy an LED tv but not sure which one to go for. Popped into Comet yesterday and left even more confused after the sales guy kept saying that LED tv's are now obsolete and not to bother wasting my money, instead pay extra few hundred and get a 3d tv.
Not interested in the 3d function as i doubt it will be very god for a few years.
The one tv that stood out was a 40' Samsung LED for £399 but unfortunately it only had 2 hdmi ports, i need a minimum of 3 ( Sky HD, Bluray Payer and Xbox).
Any recommendations on what to look for, budget wise looking at upto £450 and would prefer a 37' due to the space on the wall but would consider a 40" dependent on price. Minimum of 3 HDMI ports and a VGA port and Headphone socket.

He sounds like an idiot! LED refers to the type of backlight used on the TV. So its still an LCD TV but with an LED backlight or edge light. Most 3D tvs are LED backlit anyway so not sure where he's getting this obsolete idea from.
I'm not sure on which TVs are a good buy at the moment but there are many in the know on here.

ETA here's a list of LED backlit tvs at comet with 3 HDMIs if it helps

I bought a Sony KDL-40EX723 last week which is LED and 3D ready.
It cost £549 from John Lewis.
Make sure you buy based on how well the TV performs whilst watching standard definition, since that is what you're more than likely to be watching 50% of the time. The Sony with it's new X-Reality 200Hz engine and motionflow really blow away Samsungs (which are pretty average to poor on standard def).

LED is is just the back lighting technology by the way. It's more energy efficient and runs a lot cooler than than CFL tube.

I should have said the reason i want an LED is due to the fact they are so slim, my current LCD is a fat boy compared to the LED's.
Not keen on a 3D dont like the idea of having to wear the glasses, will probably conisder one in a few years but not at the moment.

Yes, this is the most important point. Most people will spend most of their time watching standard definition content, some watching HD and very little watching 3D.

I have got two Samsung screens (1 brand new, 1 that is 2 years old) and SD stuff does look rubbish on them. That is fine for me because my usage is about 60% Blu Ray, 30% TiVo HD and 10% HD gaming as I can't stand to watch SD stuff on big screens any more!
