I need an adapter plate made up for between my engine and gearbox.

Anyone have recommendations for any firms (preferably in the Midlands) that'll be happy to do a one off for me?

You could try these people:
http://www.nsengineering.co.uk/

They have done work for me before, but not cnc stuff. I have always found them very good.

Why do you need a CNC for a two dimensional component?

Because it needs to be accurate to iirc 0.1mm and it's not just a simple plate.

Do you mean DRO (digital read out)?
Do you have the blueprints for the block and the bellhousing?
If not, the alignment of the crank/input shaft is the issue and an engineer would mandrel align and then machine ream for dowels. The plate is just a clamped spacer.

There are companies and individuals outsourcing large numbers of one off jobs to china. If you can do a proper drawing you can have a part made to an extremely high quality for pretty much the cost of the material.

What car is it for? I can guarantee that very few production car engine/gearbox are accurate to a tolerance of 0.1mm on the bell housing mounting bolts.

I might need the same information eventually. I was looking at putting either a small block guzzi or a bmw r100r engine in my Lomax and would need a plate made to mate it to a 2cv gearbox. I have detailed drawings available....

You could gauge the faces and machine to the resulting nodes, but you risk the tolerance of repeatability quality control of mass production car manufacturers,
which isn't generally as good as you would think.
Hope this helps.

It's for a 1UZ-FE to an 6sp Audi transaxle.

Someone else has done the hard work of producing plans.

All you need is a turret mill with 2 axis DRO.

I'm not going to be telling them how to do it. I'm going to say "here are the plans, please make this". How they do it is up to them.

Now rather than tell me what I 'need' please suggest someone who can do it...

I thought the Midlands was heaving with engineers, more so than anywhere else in UK.

It is. But most are large, interested in large scale runs, don't deal with the public or would take age due to the small scale one off nature of the work. I was after recommendations rather than just email/phone the top 10 companies in the phone book...

Maybe your thread is asking the impossible. CNC machines are owned for volume production.
I own a CNC turret mill and I have done small block chevy/renault transaxle.
I don't do retail engineering, however I will talk to someone who might quote you.
Sorry that's the best I can do.

Looked at the Guerilla site. Where does the starter motor nose go in your plan?

It doesn't. Starter sits in the valley between cylinders. The section at the top is for the gear when it extends.

You can see it pretty clearly here.

Try Milner Off Road in Matlock, they use that engine in their 4x4 racers and have matched them to a number of boxes. Ask for Andy Lees.

OP you could also consider requesting a quote for the work on:

mycncuk.com, www.cnczone.com you may even get lucky and find someone on practicalmachinist.com

You'll need to know what material you want the plate made from and the tolerance range.
